The Learning Tree, an award-winning Nursery in Cardiff City Centre, is expanding and we are looking for a Qualified Nursery Practitioner with ALN Support Responsibilities to join our Team on a Part Time Contract.

In the role of a Qualified Nursery Practitioner with ALN Support Responsibilities, you will provide small group support for young children with additional learning needs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Implementing Person Centred Planning (PCPs)
- Assisting with personal care (feeding/toileting)
- Ensuring a safe, inclusive learning environment.
You will be expected to safeguard and support the children’s wellbeing at all times and follow the nursery policies and procedures. You will contribute to planning and will conduct observations recording the learning of the children. You will also liaise and communicate with parents as required.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Provide small group support for children with ALN and complex needs and support play and learning activities in line with set targets.
- Interact, supervise and keep the children safe and happy as well as contributing to the work of the nursery team.
- Assist in the provision of a wide variety of activities for the children; establish productive working relationships with the children, acting as a role model and setting high expectations. Actively encourage children's progress in all areas of development and types and stages of play through interaction and the extension of play activities.
- Encourage all children to interact and work/play cooperatively with others and engage all children in activities.
- Always ensure that the nursery environment is kept safe, secure, clean, warm and welcoming.
- Contribute to planning, record keeping, and group activities in the base room as appropriate.
- Assist in the setting up and clearing away of all activities and equipment; organise appropriate learning environment and resources for play sessions. Select and prepare resources to take account of the children’s interests, language and cultural background.
- Ensure that the nursery is maintained to the highest possible standard at all times with the highest possible standards of hygiene and safety.
- Prepare and serve children’s snack as required.
- Assist children with personal independence including toileting.
- Support the work and beliefs of the management committee by helping to create an inclusive environment that promotes open and equal opportunities for all the children and adults. Encourage the participation and involvement of parents of children attending the group.
- Attend staff and planning meetings as requested.
- Attend training as requested for legal obligations and CPD.
- Ensure that any information received concerning the children is always kept confidential and to report and discuss with the Supervisor or Senior Nursery Practitioner any observations or personal insight appropriate to a childs welfare and development.
- Adhere to the policies and procedures at The Learning Tree Day Nursery and work within the relevant legislation and within the guidelines of the National Minimum Standards, CIW and ESTYN.

Your Qualifications and Experience:
- You must hold a full and relevant Early Years qualification, at least Level 2 or above.
- Need to have some knowledge around planning and observations
- Have some safeguarding knowledge
- Understand ALN and how to support children with additional needs
- You must quick thinking and able to adapt to the ALN needs of the child whilst maintaining a child led approach in your practice at all times.
- Previous experience working and caring for children under 5, ideally within an Early Years setting is desirable.
- Happy to take instruction from senior staff, with a desire to further your own knowledge within Early Years through taking part in further training and enhancing your qualifications. You will be supported by the nursery in all training and qualifications that you undertake.
- Have a clear and valid DBS.
- Excellent references, with preferably one from an Early Years establishment.
- Bags of drive and determination with a ‘make it happen’ attitude and a positive, happy approach to your work and colleagues.
Salary listed based on age 21+ . Different rates may apply for younger candidates.
