This is a critical role supporting the safe operation of Residential Children’s Homes, including a Secure Children’s Home environment.
Your work will ensure buildings, systems, and infrastructure are safe, compliant, and functioning effectively—directly contributing to the safety, wellbeing, and day-to-day care of young people.

About the role
You will support the Site Manager in delivering a high-quality, responsive maintenance service across NCC Residential Children’s Homes.
Key responsibilities include:

Building Maintenance & Repairs
Deliver a wide range of internal and external repairs and multi-skilled maintenance tasks to a consistently high standard -
Planned, Reactive & Statutory Maintenance
Support and deliver planned, statutory, and responsive maintenance programmes, ensuringaccuratescheduling and record-keeping -
Health, Safety & Compliance
Ensure all workcomplies withhealth and safety legislation and contributes to building compliance and safe systems of work -
Contractor & Project Coordination
Liaise with and oversee contractors, ensuring work is completed to required standards and supporting refurbishment and estate projects -
Security & Building Systems
Support building security systems and procedures, including participating in thecontrol room rota and providing Reception/Control cover whenrequired -
Planning, Scheduling & Records
Maintainaccuratefinancial and operational records, manage work schedules,monitorcosts, and escalate issues where needed -
Operational Support Across Sites
Work across multiple residential settings, coordinating materials, appointments, and follow-on works -
Leadership

Provide day-to-day supervision of Building Support Officers

Support coordination of work and priorities

Deputise for the Site Manager whenrequired

Essential experience and qualifications
-
Recognised technical qualification (e.g. City & Guilds in Electrical, Building Services, or equivalent)

IOSH Certificate (or willingness to achieve)
-
Experience delivering building maintenance in a similar role, including complex maintenance programmes
-
Multi-skilled experience across a range of building systems, fixtures, and fittings
-
Knowledge of health and safety legislation and building maintenance best practice
-
Strong IT skills formaintainingoperational and compliance records
-
Full UK driving licence and ability to work across multiple sites
Desirable:

Experience working in secure or specialist environments
-
Understanding of Residential Children’s Homes or local authority settings
