Job Overview
As part of the region team, the Communications and Engagement Manager will lead the communications and marketing team to ensure the delivery of the Girlguiding South West England region strategy.
They will be responsible for maintaining our reach and impact through the positive promotion of Girlguiding South West England to external audiences, engagement with press, leading on partnerships and our ambassador scheme, supporting our membership through effective internal communications and deliver a range of digital content which supports our strategy.
Main Areas of Responsibility:
- Manage a small team, specifically line managing the Marketing and Communications Officer and Social Media Officer.
- Be the staff lead for and support the Chief Commissioner team and Lead Volunteers in the delivery of the Inclusive and Impactful aspect of the region strategy.
- Lead on all partnerships, ensuring projects run smoothly, acting as the main point of contact for existing partners, and exploring new opportunities. Also take responsibility for ongoing due diligence and partner risk management.
- Oversee the region ambassador scheme.
- Build and strengthen relationships with the press and media, leading on press releases and other PR opportunities, and working with region staff and volunteers to maximise the impact of events and activities through press coverage and public engagement.
- Lead on the delivery of the 2027 region roadshows including managing budgets and coordinating with venues to ensure the smooth delivery of these events.
- Administrative support for the Inclusive and Impactful committee.
- Oversee digital content, promotional design material and information created for region website(s), social media and communications by the region Communications and Marketing team. Ensuring branding is correct and tone of voice is followed across all regional communications.
- Ensure GDPR practices are followed correctly, confidential information is handled appropriately, and photographic and videographic consent is collected and stored securely.
General:
1. To ensure the well-being of the volunteer in all activities for Girlguiding South West England.
2. To conduct all activities in a manner which promotes and enhances the image and reputation of Girlguiding South West England.
3. To carry out such other duties not detailed above but as directed by the Executive Manager that may reasonably be required from time to time to ensure the smooth operation of Guiding in South West England and delivery of the region’s Strategic Plan. This will include: being flexible in the hours worked in the day to day running of the office; ensuring a prompt and courteous response to all enquiries at all times; and maintaining confidentiality on all matters at all times.
4. To assist in the organisation and running of Girlguiding South West England activities, challenges and events including Region conferences and special events. This may include some travel.
5. To be prepared to work occasional Saturdays/Sundays and be prepared to work flexibly during the working week in support of Girlguiding South West England meetings and events. The job-holder will be entitled to take Time-off-in Lieu (TOIL) for weekend and evening working (see also the South West England Staff Handbook).
Person specification
Essential criteria
- Line management experience, particularly within a diverse team and being able to coordinate and manage different workloads and resources in a fast-paced environment.
- Partnership management and/or other relevant stakeholder engagement expertise. This includes experience of working with a diverse range of audiences to be able to build and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders and the ability to work with and relate to people at all levels and backgrounds.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Experience of working in a busy office environment and managing a diverse and varied workload.
- Experience in working effectively as part of a team.
- Knowledge and/or experience of handling confidential data appropriately.
- Ability to manage and organise own time and workload and achieve deadlines.
- Conscientious, reliable, and good attention to detail.
Desirable criteria
- Experience working for a non-for-profit or membership organisation.
- Knowledge of Girlguiding and understanding of its statement of purpose.
Contract Type
This is a fixed term, full time (35 hours a week) maternity cover position, up to 12 months.
Location
This is a hybrid position, with office days being based at the Girlguiding South West England’s office, St Ann’s Manor, 6-8 St Ann Street, Salisbury, Wiltshire, SP1 2DN. The post holder would be expected to work a minimum of 3 days in the office.
Salary
The salary is £32,000-35,000 per annum, depending on experience
Working Hours
The core hours are 35 hours per week to be worked over 5 days. There will also be the occasional requirement to work at the weekend and in the evening, for which you will be entitled to time off in lieu.
Probationary Period
The post will be subject to a probationary period of 3 months.
