Avantor Services delivers a broad range of on-site laboratory services to a major pharmaceutical client. We are seeking a Chemistry Support Specialist (Laboratory Maintenance Technician) to join our team in Macclesfield, providing hands-on technical support to scientists within a dynamic laboratory environment.

Working hours: Monday to Friday. 7:00am – 3:00pm or 8:00am – 4:00pm,
The Role:
As a Chemistry Support Specialist, you will provide first-line technical support for chemistry equipment, including bespoke systems. You will work closely with scientists and service providers to ensure laboratory equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in line with Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair:
o Glass jacketed reactors
o Heater/chiller circulators
o Pipework and fittings
o Rotavaps and vacuum pumps
- Handle gas cylinders, lecture bottles, regulators, and specialty gases safely
- Diagnose equipment issues and implement effective solutions
- Ensure lab equipment is fit for purpose through planned maintenance schedules
- Manage stock levels of consumables and spare parts
- Perform equipment performance checks and act as a superuser where required
- Collaborate with internal/external service providers and laboratory scientists
- Develop SOPs, quick-reference guides, and risk assessments
- Contribute to continuous improvement, efficiency gains, and cost-saving initiatives
- Train and support colleagues where needed
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience working in a laboratory or similar technical environment
- Strong mechanical or engineering knowledge (essential)
Knowledge & Expertise
- Good understanding of laboratory processes and safety standards
o SOPs, SLAs, and KPIs
o Pressure systems and material compatibility
o GLP / GMP (desirable)
- Knowledge of laboratory plumbing (e.g., Swagelok) is advantageous (training provided)
Skills
- Competent with workshop tools and hands-on technical tasks
- Strong problem-solving ability with a logical approach
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Teams, Word, Excel)
- Good planning, organisational, and time management skills
- Ability to manage workload independently in line with SLAs
