Full job description

Make an impact and start your career making revolutionary science tools used all over the world. We are a small, friendly company that creates awesome equipment and kits for scientists working with DNA.

Do you enjoy hands-on projects, crafting, or technical hobbies? This unique hybrid apprenticeship spans assembly of laboratory hardware to production and shipping of science consumables for DNA work. Our team has a strong focus on R&D and problem solving. You will be given lots of support to build your own skills and independence.

Your apprenticeship experience

You will work toward a Level 2 Science Manufacturing Process Operative qualification. This is a 15 - 18 month programme. You will spend 80% of your time on-site learning on the job and 20% of your time on dedicated "off-the-job" training (fully paid).
Once you complete your apprenticeship, we hope you will also apply for a permanent position, which will come with a substantial increase in wage.

So far, our team has had two apprentices who have become full-time team members. Here is what one of them said about their experience:

What will you be doing?

You are a person who wants to learn new skills. You are diligent, and have an eye for detail. You don't just want to get something done quickly, you want to get it done right.

Average week might include:

Assembling laboratory devices
Aliquoting and mixing reagents
Conducting quality control check and repair of components
Maintaining sterile environments for DNA-grade production
3D printing parts and prototypes
Prototyping and experimenting with process improvements
Prepare orders for shipping to customers around the world

This role involves working with small components, including fine soldering and precision pipetting.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

At the end of the Apprenticeship, you will have:

Achieved a Science Manufacturing Process Operative qualification (L2 NVQ Diploma)
Developed operational and project management skills
Applied creative thinking to overcome challenges with innovative solutions
Gained core knowledge of engineering / science principles and design

Training will be delivered on-site with regular visits every 4 to 6 weeks from the assessor.
