ASSISTANT NIGHT MANAGER – GLASGOW DEPOT

We are recruiting an Assistant Night Manager to join our team at our Glasgow Depot, supporting the Night Manager with the effective planning, coordination and management of our nightly transport operation.
This is an important, hands-on position within a busy depot, offering the opportunity to develop your management experience and play a key role in maintaining service, safety, compliance and operational performance.
THE ROLE
- Assistant Night Manager
- Location: Glasgow Depot
- Monday to Friday
- Start time: 18:00
- Contracted hours: 48 hours per week
- Pay: £15.80 per hour
- Basic weekly pay: £758.40
- Weekly bonus: £46.71
- Total weekly earnings including bonus: £805.11
- Annual earnings: Approximately £41,865
- Paid weekly every Thursday
- Permanent, full-time position
You will support the Night Manager in planning and coordinating the depot’s transport and operational functions, ensuring that vehicles, drivers and other resources are managed effectively and within budget.
You will help maintain excellent customer service, operational efficiency and legal compliance while supporting and motivating the night team.
You will also be expected to provide management cover and take responsibility for the operation during periods when the Night Manager is absent.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with planning, organising, monitoring and controlling transport and depot operations
- Support the effective management and utilisation of vehicles, drivers and operational resources
- Help maintain service levels while ensuring appropriate budgetary and cost control
- Assist with the management of the traffic desk and resolve escalated driver or transport issues
- Monitor operational performance and help identify opportunities to reduce waste, errors and unnecessary costs
- Support improvements in operational efficiency and customer satisfaction
- Prepare accurate reports, spreadsheets and management information for internal departments and customers
- Promote and maintain high professional standards when dealing with employees, customers and prospective clients
- Motivate and support the team to maintain an efficient, effective and positive working environment
- Help allocate staffing resources in accordance with operational requirements and changing freight volumes
- Identify training and development requirements within the operation
- Maintain full compliance with FORS, health and safety requirements and all other relevant legislation
- Help ensure the fleet remains safe, maintained and compliant with applicable transport legislation
- Monitor and audit operational and fleet compliance, liaising with the Depot Manager and supervisory team where required
- Ensure Drivers and Deckworkers maintain high standards of professionalism
- Maintain clear and effective communication throughout the shift
- Provide an accurate and comprehensive operational handover to the Night Manager
- Cover the responsibilities of the Night Manager during periods of absence
- Help maintain morale and promote teamwork throughout the depot
- Complete any other reasonable duties requested by the management team
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coach, mentor and develop members of the team
- Support and oversee the induction of new starters
- Provide clear oversight, guidance and direction to employees
- Help manage employee performance and development
- Support objective-setting and provide constructive feedback
- Identify individual and team training and development needs
- Receive complaints, investigate concerns and help resolve problems fairly and professionally
- Assist with monitoring and recording employee attendance
- Support the management of timekeeping, sickness absence and annual leave
- Ensure the security and confidentiality of personal, sensitive and Company information at all times
