ABOUT CHARLES LAURIE
Charles Laurie is looking for an experienced Senior Leather Craftsman to join our growing team in our Rutland-based barn-converted studio.
Founded in 2016 by craftsman and designer Charlie Laurie, Charles Laurie is a high end leather goods company specialising in the design and manufacture of bespoke leather products. Charlie and his team create everything in-house using a combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern manufacturing techniques.
Our projects range from luxury small leather goods including wallets, card holders and accessories, through to travel cases, bespoke commissions and interior leather installations. We are particularly interested in candidates with proven experience manufacturing high-quality wallets and small leather goods to a very high standard.
OPPORTUNITY
This is an opportunity to become a key member of a growing luxury leather goods business, working directly alongside founder Charlie Laurie on a diverse range of bespoke, production and development projects.
The successful candidate will play an important role in the continued growth of the company, contributing not only to the manufacture of exceptional leather goods but also to product development, project delivery, workshop organisation and continuous improvement across the business.
This role is ideally suited to an experienced and ambitious craftsman who takes pride in their work, enjoys problem-solving, and is looking for a long-term opportunity within a creative and expanding workshop environment.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Proven experience making luxury wallets and small leather goods is essential
- Strong pattern cutting and pattern development skills
- Experience in product development, prototyping and sampling
- Strong experience in hand stitching and machine stitching leather goods
- Experienced in using leather working machinery, including skiving machines
- High standard of edge finishing and detailing
- Experience assembling leather products from components through to finished product
- Experience working within a luxury leather goods manufacturing environment
- Experience with travel goods, bespoke commissions or interior leather projects
- Experience coordinating projects, managing workflow and supporting the day-to-day running of a workshop
- Comfortable supporting project coordination and workshop organisation
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- Reliable, organised and professional
- Ability to work on both bespoke and production projects
- Ability to work on highly repetitive production work when required
- Ability to work to deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Interest in improving workshop systems, processes and efficiency
- Full driving licence and access to a vehicle due to our rural location
