Starting salary for this role is £32,061 (pro rata for part-time colleagues)
This role sits within a well defined pay band, offering clear progression as you grow your career at BCP. Internal colleagues are also normally appointed at the bottom of the band, unless moving within the same profession and skill level, where the pay band is the same they can be appointed to the existing pay point.

Role Purpose
To provide technical assistance to the building control service to support the effective surveying of all construction in accordance with legislation and regulatory standards. The role will assist with minor or straightforward works, and operate under direction from Building Control Surveyors.
Main Responsibilities

Undertake initial examination of applications to ensure that all applications have appropriate documentation, and assess minor or straightforward applications against building regulations to make a recommendation on whether it is compliant and can proceed to construction.

Under the supervision and direction of a Building Control Surveyor, inspect buildings and building methods for minor or straightforward constructions against well-defined regulations concerning safety, accessibility, and sustainability in order to assess whether construction is in accordance with legislation, standards and best practice. Any potential issues or non-compliance will be reported to senior colleagues for appropriate action to be taken.

Produce reports and correspondence to record and communicate the results of inspections for colleagues and customers.

Respond to enquiries from the public and provide basic professional advice to ensure that a good customer service is delivered.

Input data into the systems and maintain accurate records of all inspections and associated work so that information is accessible and auditable, and can be used in legal proceedings if required.

Calculate fees and process invoices and payments in accordance with defined rates and processes, so that the service can receive accurate monies.

Assist with marketing activity to promote the service, which may involve producing marketing materials and maintaining customer databases.

Assist with performance reports and auditing.
The Ideal Candidate
-
HNC Construction or equivalent.
-
LABC Level 3 certificate in Technical Support
-
Some experience in the construction industry.

Experience in customer service.

Some knowledge of building regulations and legislation relating to construction.

Some knowledge of construction techniques, building materials and industry products and systems.

Ability to plan and manage own workload.

Ability to explain technical information to clients.
