To be an integral part of the Mortuary and Bereavement Team; to facilitate the running of the Mortuary as directed by the Mortuary and Bereavement Service Manager.
The main purposes of the job to include but are not limited to:
Receipt and release of deceased, maintaining documentation and following written procedures ensuring dignity and respect of deceased at all times.
Requires a high level of physical effort.
Liaising with families of the deceased, Funeral Directors, Coroner’s Office and other internal and external agencies as required.
Prepare deceased for and conduct viewings with family and friends.
Provide a level of cross cover between the Mortuary and Bereavement roles under the instruction of the Mortuary and Bereavement Services Manager.
Participate in the out-of-hours on-call service for the Mortuary.
To carry out tasks documented on the Mortuary Checklists to ensure the smooth running of the department.
The post holder will be expected to communicate and form working relations with other members of the team, their line manager as well as other Health Professionals and support staff both within DCHFT, the local community, outside agencies & Funeral Directors.
The post holder may be required to communicate with and provide sensitive information to the Coroner’s Office regarding deceased patients.
It will be necessary for the individual to communicate with families, partners and friends of the deceased which may be emotionally challenging.
To attend and participate in departmental team meetings.
With reference to the Human Tissue Act, ensure the Department meets current standards and assist the Mortuary and Bereavement Service Manager/HTA DI to maintain and improve standards.
To ensure that deceased patient dignity and respect is always maintained.
To maintain departmental security and confidentiality in all matters relating to patient information.
The admission and discharge of deceased, checking identification on wrist bands against documentation, taking care that all documentation is completed and accurate including details of all personal property.
Follow SOPs, Trust Policies and Risk Assessments at all times and propose changes/ review both SOPs and controlled documents as appropriate with the Mortuary and Bereavement Services Manager.
