Solar Roofer – Southern England & Midlands £40,000–£70,000 OTE | Full Time | Directly Employed
At Spirit Energy, we've been installing solar PV, battery storage and EV chargers for 16 years. We've completed around 7,000 installations and we're known in the industry for our reputation and for doing things properly. We are growing quickly and looking to take on more solar roofers to support company growth.

We understand that many solar installation companies are careless with the health and safety of their installers. At Spirit Energy, the health and safety and job satisfaction of our employees comes above everything else.
We always use full scaffolding.
You will never be asked to go on a roof without top-notch fall protection in place. We never ask you to work off a scaffolding tower, or worse without any scaffolding. Health and safety is paramount to building a world-class, successful solar installation business.
Role Progression.
We offer a lot of training and progression and will invest in your development, including;
- SSSTS for those that want to progress to supervisor level.
- Telehandler courses.
- Electrician courses if you'd like to become an electrician.
The money and overtime.
Base rate is £15–£18 per hour depending on experience, with bonuses for overtime and weekends.
Overtime is yours to take or leave. Most of our team average around 10 hours of overtime a week on top of a 45-hour contract, but it's up to you whether you do the overtime, it's not mandatory.
Our average roofer earns £53k, averaging 10 hours per week of overtime on top of the basic rate. Our highest paid roofer earns above £65k due to all the overtime he does.
You get paid to drive to site. Your day starts when you arrive at our warehouse in Reading (RG30). If you're travelling to site in the van, you're on the clock.
Stay-away projects are rare. We work across Southern England and the Midlands and we do reserve the right to request overnight stays on occasion, but in practice most of our team do no more than a few nights a year depending on the project size.
Proper paperwork.
We prepare a full job sheet with diagrams, layouts, schematics, and photos of every job. This will be sent round the night before, or a couple days before the project. You will not be left to figure it out on the day!
Meet the team.
There are 25 of us in the installation team — 18 roofers and 7 electricians. Our Head of Installations has been with the company for 16 years and runs the team day to day. Most of our roofers have been with us for over 5 years.
What we're looking for:
- At least 12 months' experience installing solar panels across different roof types, ideally domestic and commercial.
- Working at Heights, asbestos awareness and CSCS are ideal but not all essential.
- We'll invest in your development — including SSSTS for those who want to progress to supervisor level.
If you do not have solar experience but have experience in construction or roofing, or if you have an excellent work ethic and are able to commute, please get in touch with us.
You'll need to be reliable, hardworking and comfortable dealing with clients on site.
We're MCS, CHAS and NICEIC accredited. Sub-contractors are welcome to apply, though we prefer direct employment for the long term.
