We are Morley Live CIC, a non-profit company based in Morley, Leeds, that exists to support musical talent through every stage of its development. From 1-1 lessons and group classes in our music school to our grassroots live music nights supporting local bands in our bar and venue.
We’re looking for 2 new musicians to join our teaching team, delivering individual instrumental lessons and running classes. We currently have availability for an extra piano tutor on Mondays and an extra guitar tutor on Wednesdays and Fridays. In addition to this we’re looking for tutors who can cover if our other teachers are away for any reason, and their lessons can’t be covered by our in-house staff.
Ideally, an applicant for our team would be:
- A professional-level musician (grades and degrees aren’t compulsory but you’ll be expected to play your instrument to a high degree-level standard).
- An enthusiastic and experienced teacher, comfortable teaching any age from 5+
- Capable of explaining and playing multiple styles of music, and planning lessons for a range of abilities (including SEN students)
- Confident with the use of technology for our attendance and notes systems
- A positive influence on our students and the community, both musically and otherwise
- Proactive in planning and leading group classes in your specialist area
- In possession of an enhanced DBS check (for the right candidate, if you don’t currently have one we could get it sorted out for you through the school)
- Comfortable with instrument maintenance for your chosen instrument, and capable of teaching this to students
Our tutors are fully employed through Morley Live, meaning that we offer
- Pension pay through The People's Pension
- Holiday pay
- Sick leave
- On the job training and CPD.
Our rate of pay is £20ph, and £15 for covering when another tutor is on leave. Hours are calculated based on lessons taught and not time on the premises. Most of our tutors run some kind of group class as part of their teaching time, which helps to establish their specialism and identity with the school and attract new students to help them fill up a calendar of 1-1 lessons.
A chosen candidate will be expected to shadow another tutor’s lessons at the school for 3-4 shifts before they begin teaching, to learn our procedures, systems, and the high standard we expect from the tutors representing Morley Live.
Pay: £15.00-£20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 5.0 – 30.0 per week
Benefits:
- Casual dress
- Company pension
- Employee mentoring programme
- Free parking
- On-site parking
- Sick pay
