Frank's Farm is an exciting food retail park with a variety of artisanal food producers onsite.
We've been open for over 2 years and now looking for an enthusiastic, energetic and passionate person to join the team. At the moment we're open from Wednesday - Sunday and bank holidays. The plan is to increase the number of days and hours in the coming months.
Job Summary We are looking for a skilled and customer-focused Retail Butcher to prepare, present, and sell high-quality meat products. The ideal candidate takes pride in their craft, maintains excellent hygiene standards, and enjoys helping customers find the right cut for their needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Break down primal and sub-primal cuts of beef, pork, lamb, poultry, and other meats to retail specifications
- Prepare specialty cuts, custom orders, and value-added products (burgers, sausages, mince, etc.)
- Maintain an attractive, well-stocked fridge display
- Advise customers on cuts, cooking methods, portion sizes, and product provenance
- Weigh, price, label, and wrap products accurately
- Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering and rotation
- Ensure the department meets all food safety, hygiene, and temperature compliance requirements (HACCP)
- Clean and sanitise equipment, surfaces, and the work area to a high standard
- Operate and maintain knives, mincers, and other butchery equipment safely
Requirements
- Proven experience as a butcher (retail )
- Sound knowledge of meat cuts, grades, and preparation techniques
- Food hygiene certificate (Level 2 minimum; Level 3 preferred)
- Strong knife skills and safe equipment handling
- Good numeracy for weighing and pricing
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work in a cold environment and stand for extended periods
- Current opening times 8.30 - 5.30 Wed - Sat and 10.00 - 14.30 Sunday and B/H.
Desirable
- NVQ/City & Guilds in Meat & Poultry (or equivalent apprenticeship)
- Experience with game, specialist cuts and specialty meat
- Previous supervisory or team-leader experience
