Job description

The Deputy Data Protection Manager supports the Data Protection Officer (DPO) in meeting the organisations statutory obligations under the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018. The role provides operational leadership and delivery of the data protection function, including the day-to-day handling of individual rights requests, advisory support to the business, and maintenance of core compliance frameworks. The postholder will deputise for the DPO where appropriate, ensuring continuity, resilience and timely decision making across the data protection function. This role is critical in enabling the DPO to operate effectively at a strategic level, while ensuring that operational demand, regulatory timescales and risk are actively managed.

Person specification

Deputise for the Data Protection Officer (DPO) as required, providing operational cover, representing the function at meetings, and supporting timely decision making and escalation of data protection matters.
Lead the end-to-end handling of individual rights requests, including Subject Access Requests and other UK GDPR rights, ensuring responses are lawful, proportionate, and issued within statutory timescales.
Maintain and support core data protection compliance artefacts, including the Record of Processing Activities (RoPA), Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), and data processing agreements.

To be successful in this role youll need:

Applicants must possess relevant Data Protection experience or qualifications
Experience or knowledge of handling individual rights requests, including complex or sensitive cases
Confidence working independently while knowing when to escalate or seek direction
