About the Role: We are looking for a part-time carer for an individual with complex care needs to join our existing support team.

To provide support to work with a young adult with complex medical and learning needs within their parental home.

Hourly Rate:

Employed - £16 per hour.

Sleep in rate - £88.85

Self employed rate – If self-employed, please states rates on application

Hours required:

14.5 hours minimum plus one sleep-in per week. The role has set shifts, two in the working week and one shift on alternate weekends, in a two week rolling rota.

*Please note that flexibiliy with shift times and patterns will be needed initially, during training period.

Assistance with Annual Leave cover is required which includes weekends.

Successful candidates will go through a three-part interview process (Application/ Interview/ time with the young adult).

Job purpose:

To support a young person with complex medical and learning needs with all aspects of day to day living in the parental home, including health needs, so she can enjoy the best possible quality of life.

About the individual:

Our young person has complex medical needs due to Postural Tachycardia Syndrome including fatigue and neurological pain.

Our young person has learning needs including autism and a severe speech delay.

Activities she likes include baking, music, pamper sessions, craft and watching You Tube.

Rate of pay:

Directly Employed rate £16ph.

Night rate £88.85.

Self-employed rate: If self-employed, please states rates on application

Main duties:

Provides assistance with the following areas in a safe, reliable, compassionate, supportive manner to meet the young person’s needs and wishes:

Personal Care

Nutrition and Hydration

Mobility (sometimes use a small wheelchair when fatigued)

Activities – inclduing baking, cooking, art and craft and gardening

(Energy Management takes place within all the above assistance)

Household Tasks

Personal Care:

Assist with personal care tasks, such as showering, washing, dressing, eating, dental hygiene, toileting and continence care based on her energy level and in consultation with the Employer.

Maintaining skin integrity over pressure areas and following infection control standards.

Both to be recorded accurately in care folder.

To dispense and administer daily medication together with PRN medication (including giving suppositories – training given), recording on Medication Administration Record Sheet, ordering and collecting prescriptions or returning unwanted medicines to the pharmacy for safe disposal.

To identify and respond swiftly if PRN medication is needed.

Follow physiotherapy programme (training given) to maintain and increase joint flexibility, prevent muscle wastage and increase stamina.

Preserve dignity and support to maintain privacy in all personal care/matters.

Support her to eat and drink well, recording accurately and reporting any reduction in usual fluid/calorie intake to the Employer.

Social duties:

Assist in the safe transferring, repositioning and movement to day lounge, bathroom, wheelchair, car and campervan.

Accompany in the latter when required

To create, prepare and implement engaging activities with our young person in consultation with the employer.

These activities to be appealing, be age appropriate and within their physical or emotional levels.

Observe and gauge energy levels based on traffic light system and record (training given).

Encourage engagement/involvement in activities based on observed energy level of our young person.

Record the activity in terms of presentation, response and involvement.

Domestic duties:

Perform housekeeping tasks, such as preparing nutritious meals and snacks, washing up, dusting, vacuuming, laundry, ironing and changing bed linen.

These duties may vary from day-to-day.

Qualities

Values: approachable, reliable, punctual, non-judgemental, ability to build good relationships based on trust and respect, flexible, adaptable and able to work alone.

Skills, qualifications and experience

Essential:

Positive and friendly attitude in a calm, quiet fun way.

Good observation skills particularly gauging mood, pain and sensitivity to noise.

Accurate record keeping

Basic maths – addition, subtraction, percentages for fluid/food records.

Enjoy craft and baking.

Flexibility to work when needed, especially evenings, weekends, or early mornings.

Have a current DBS check

Legally able to work in UK

Recognise and report any adverse findings or concerns to the Employer/lead worker.

If self-employed - provide evidence of self-employment such as Public Liability Insurance, Terms and Conditions, tax reference number will be required.

Preferred:

Use optimum communication skills - dynamic language rather than questions.

Be able to use smart technology.

Sign-along would be desirable - training can be given on key words.
