Full job description

Stock Sweepers Limited is seeking an ambitious and driven individual to join our team as a Stores & Inventory Supervisor Designate.

This is a succession planning opportunity for an experienced stores or inventory professional who is looking to take the next step in their career and ultimately assume responsibility for leading our stores department.

We are not looking for someone to simply maintain the status quo. We are looking for someone who wants to understand how the department operates, identify opportunities for improvement and play a key role in the future development of the business.

The successful candidate will work alongside the current Stores Supervisor and management team, gaining an understanding of our products, systems and processes before progressing into the Stores Supervisor position.

About the Role

The stores department is one of the most important functions within the business. It directly impacts production efficiency, purchasing decisions, stock investment, customer satisfaction and ultimately company profitability.

We require someone who already understands the principles of stock control and inventory management and who appreciates the importance of accurate stock levels, correct stock locations and disciplined processes.

This role requires someone who is organised, methodical, inquisitive and prepared to challenge inefficiencies where they are identified.

Key Responsibilities

Support the day-to-day operation of the stores department.
Ensure stock is received, stored, issued and controlled in accordance with company procedures.
Maintain accurate stock records and inventory data within the company ERP system.
Participate in cycle counts, stocktakes and inventory audits.
Investigate stock discrepancies and support root cause analysis.
Work closely with production, purchasing and management teams to ensure material availability.
Monitor stock levels and identify potential shortages or excess stock holdings.
Ensure stores locations remain organised, accurate and fit for purpose.
Support the continuous improvement of stores processes and inventory control procedures.
Maintain high standards of housekeeping, organisation and safety throughout the department.

Future Responsibilities

Following a successful transition into the Stores Supervisor role, responsibilities will include:

Managing the day-to-day operation of the stores department.
Leading and supporting stores personnel.
Maintaining inventory accuracy and stock integrity across the business.
Monitoring key inventory performance indicators.
Developing and improving stores processes and procedures.
Ensuring company standards and processes are consistently followed.
Working with management to improve efficiency, accuracy and operational performance.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will not simply be a stores person. They will understand the wider importance of inventory control within a manufacturing environment.

They will recognise that inaccurate stock affects production, purchasing, planning and customer deliveries.

They will be comfortable questioning information that appears incorrect and will be willing to challenge poor practice where required.

We are looking for someone who:

Has previous experience within a stores, warehouse, logistics or inventory management environment.
Understands the importance of inventory accuracy and stock control.
Has experience using ERP or stock management systems.
Is highly organised and detail orientated.
Has strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Is confident identifying inefficiencies and proposing improvements.
Takes ownership of issues and follows them through to completion.
Has the confidence to uphold standards and ensure procedures are followed consistently.
Communicates effectively with colleagues at all levels.
Has the ambition to progress into a leadership role.
Can build positive working relationships whilst driving improvements and maintaining standards.

Essential Requirements

Previous stores, inventory, warehouse or logistics experience.
Good understanding of stock control principles.
Competent IT skills including Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
Experience using ERP, MRP or inventory management software.
Strong organisational and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively within a manufacturing environment.

Desirable Requirements

Previous supervisory or team leader experience.
Experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
Experience conducting stock investigations, cycle counts and inventory audits.
