Strike Education is looking for enthusiastic, reliable and confident coaches to deliver after-school sports and activity clubs across primary schools in Harlow.
This role would suit an experienced sports coach, teaching assistant, PE specialist, university student studying sport or education, or someone already working with children who is looking for additional part-time hours.
Sessions will usually begin between 3:15pm and 3:45pm and run for approximately one hour. The number of sessions available may vary depending on school demand and the successful candidate’s availability.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver fun, engaging and inclusive after-school clubs.
- Lead sports and physical activities for primary-aged children.
- Plan age-appropriate sessions with clear structure and progression.
- Create a positive, safe and welcoming environment.
- Manage behaviour confidently and professionally.
- Adapt activities for different abilities and additional needs.
- Complete registers and follow school collection and dismissal procedures.
- Set up and safely store equipment.
- Communicate professionally with school staff, parents and the Strike Education team.
- Follow all safeguarding, health and safety and school policies.

- Other sports depending on the coach’s experience and qualifications
The ideal candidate
We are looking for someone who:
- Enjoys working with children.
- Is confident leading groups independently.
- Is energetic, positive and engaging.
- Is reliable and able to arrive on time.
- Has strong communication and behaviour-management skills.
- Can create sessions that are fun, inclusive and well organised.
- Is available on one or more weekday afternoons during term time.
- Is able to travel between schools across Harlow.
Essential requirements
- Experience working with children in a school, sports, childcare or community setting.
- A good understanding of safeguarding.
- The ability to provide suitable professional references.
- An enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service, or willingness to complete a new DBS check.
- The right to work in the UK.
- Reliable transport or the ability to travel to schools across Harlow.
Desirable experience
- A recognised sports coaching qualification.
- Experience delivering after-school clubs.
- Experience working with primary-aged children.
- Paediatric first-aid training.
- SEND or SEMH experience.
- Qualifications in football, multi-sports, dance, gymnastics or other physical activities.
