The Role
Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, you will take ownership of the end-to-end payroll function across multiple sites, ensuring payroll is processed accurately, confidentially, and on time every month.
You will act as the organisation's payroll expert, providing guidance to Finance and HR colleagues, ensuring compliance with payroll legislation, and driving improvements in systems, controls, and processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end monthly payroll process across all sites.
- Maintain payroll records, including new starters, leavers, contractual changes, and employee updates.
- Ensure accurate processing of tax codes, pensions, statutory payments, salary adjustments, and deductions.
- Manage payroll data from iTrent and other systems to ensure payroll accuracy.
- Review and post payroll journals and support payroll account reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations and statutory reporting requirements.
- Prepare and upload BACS payment files in line with internal controls and approval processes.
- Act as the key contact for payroll audits, both internal and external.
- Manage payroll queries and resolve discrepancies effectively.
- Develop and maintain payroll reporting and Power BI dashboards.
- Support and maintain payroll-related functionality within iTrent.
- Lead payroll planning, scheduling, risk management, and business continuity activities.
- Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
- Deliver regular payroll clinics and support to colleagues across the organisation.
About You
We're looking for someone who combines strong technical payroll expertise with excellent stakeholder management and a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
- Extensive practical experience managing payroll operations.
- Strong understanding of payroll legislation, compliance, and HMRC requirements.
- Experience using iTrent payroll systems.
- Excellent Excel and IT skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience reconciling payroll data and payroll control accounts.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- High levels of discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills.
- Experience creating and maintaining Power BI dashboards.
- Experience working within healthcare, social care, charity, or multi-site organisations.
