Job Overview
Children in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan need safe, stable, and caring homes where they can feel valued and thrive.
At Foster Wales, we’re looking for caring people who can support, guide and encourage young people as they grow.
Why foster?
Fostering gives you the chance to make a real difference in a child’s life. By offering a safe, supportive home, you can help young people build confidence, feel secure, and reach their full potential—all while being part of a rewarding and life-changing journey.
Who can apply?
We welcome applicants from all walks of life. You don’t need specific qualifications — what matters most is empathy, resilience, and a willingness to learn.
Many people come to fostering with experience from other caring or people‑focused roles, and we particularly value the skills gained in professions such as Teachers, Tutors, Nursery Nurses, Nursery Practitioners, Counsellors, Probation Officers, Registered Nurses, Midwifes, Educational Psychologists, Prison Officers, Childcare Workers, Registered Managers, Social Workers, Housing Officers, Substance Misuse Workers, CAMHS Workers, and Youth Offending Workers.
If you’ve supported young people, families, or vulnerable individuals in any capacity, your skills are highly transferable and could make a real difference as a foster carer.
Many people assume fostering means a full-time, life-changing commitment.
Sometimes it is — but it doesn’t have to be.
There are different ways to foster:
- Short breaks
- Emergency care
- Longer-term placements
You can start in a way that fits your life — not the other way around.
Benefits of fostering with us
- On-going and extensive specialist training, tailored to supporting you
- Financial support and professional fees
- Access to 24-hour support
- Regular support groups and peer networks
- The chance to make a life-changing difference close to home
- Membership to the Blue Light Card for nationwide discounts
What you need
- A spare bedroom
- Time, patience, and openness
- A desire to support young people in your community
Ready to make a real difference?
If you live in Cardiff or the Vale of Glamorgan and have the patience, empathy and commitment to support children, fostering could be the most meaningful step you take. You’ll be offering stability, understanding and a caring home to children who truly benefit from consistent, nurturing support - right here in your own community.
