Bookkeeping & Finance Clerk
Job Overview
A long-established wholesale business within the sports sector, successfully providing a national service and self-designed product selection to the retail market, is seeking a Bookkeeping & Finance Clerk
Hours: 31.5 hours per week
Salary: £28,500 - £30,000 per annum (full-time equivalent), pro rata based on 31.5 hours per week.
The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in managing financial transactions, ensuring accuracy in accounts payable, and maintaining financial records.
Responsibilities
- Manage the Sales Ledger, including invoicing and credit control
- Manage the Purchase Ledger, ensuring supplier invoices are processed accurately and paid on time
- Perform bookkeeping duties and maintain accurate financial records
- Process monthly payroll and ensure compliance with PAYE and pension requirements
- Prepare and process supplier and other business payments
- Reconcile bank accounts and investigate discrepancies
- Assist with VAT returns and HMRC submissions
- Produce monthly management reports and support cashflow monitoring, including P&L, Cashflow and Balance Sheet reporting
- Prepare Management Accounts
- Manage foreign currency purchases and contract management
- Maintain accurate accounting records using accounting software
- Support month-end and year-end processes
- Manage and action a complete stock-take for a large SKU inventory
- Liaise with customers, suppliers, and internal departments regarding finance-related queries
- Assist with stock reconciliation and other administrative finance tasks as required
Experience
- At least 2 years' experience working within the private sector in a similar role, or experience undertaking these responsibilities within a UK-based accountancy practice
- Proficiency in accounting software such as Sage or other relevant platforms
- ACA/ACCA studier, ideally part-qualified, although candidates at other stages of qualification will be considered
- Strong understanding of accounts payable processes and financial reporting
- Excellent attention to detail with strong organisational skills
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships both internally and externally
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to problem-solve effectively
