Role Overview
The Garment Technologist role involves ensuring the design direction, fit intent, and overall quality of all garments meet brand expectations and customer satisfaction. It combines technical expertise, supplier collaboration, and process management to deliver high-quality womenswear products.
Key Responsibilities
Fit Sessions & Product Approval
- Organizing and managing weekly fit sessions with Product teams to ensure consistent garment fit and construction methods.
- Risk assessing products from the earliest point of development, identifying and resolving issues proactively.
- Communicating fit comments and garment details clearly to suppliers.
- Standardising key blocks to improve speed, accuracy, and product performance.
- Ensuring garment construction methods and continuity of sizing are maintained.
- Managing grading rules and approving test reports for base and bulk materials.
- Tracking shipment samples, liaising with the Warehouse Team, and resolving QC issues in bulk deliveries.
- Taking technical ownership of product aspects to ensure consistency in fit, construction, performance, and quality.
Quality Assurance & Customer Returns
- Strategically analysing customer feedback and competitor insights to improve fit and quality.
- Monitoring and managing the critical path, ensuring sample approvals/rejections are communicated to relevant departments.
- Collaborating with supplier and warehouse QC teams to respond to quality issues and proposing actions for future deliveries.
- Handling quality recalls and liaising with Customer Services regarding returns and feedback.
- Contributing to initiatives to reduce return rates and exceed customer expectations.
Supplier Management & Compliance
- Building strong relationships with suppliers, providing feedback, and ensuring adherence to the Supplier Manual.
- Conducting supplier reviews regularly and addressing technical issues during production.
- Managing sustainability information and supply chain breakdowns, addressing potential issues or red flags.
- Tracking recognized social audits for tier 1 suppliers to ensure validity with no advisories.
- Ensuring compliance with international testing and trading regulations for relevant products.
- Updating labelling requirements and testing processes to meet changing regulations globally.
- Taking ownership of EPR data collection and declarations for relevant territories.
Additional Responsibilities
- Supporting the Product team with tasks such as tidying samples.
- Assisting in technical drawings with a focus on measurements and construction when requested.
- Preparing and distributing updated versions of the Supplier Manual and confirming receipt from suppliers.
- Main point of contact for nominated label suppliers, ensuring compliance with EPR and new product requirements.
