The role & what you take care of:
Magna is seeking a dedicated and proactive Lead Building Safety Manager to help us provide safe, compliant and well-managed homes for our customers. In this key housing association role, you will bring fair, pragmatic leadership, excellent organisation skills and demonstrable knowledge of current building and fire safety legislation and guidance. Using your expertise in active and passive building safety, you will manage risk, drive high standards, strengthen our safety culture and support meaningful resident engagement. You will be confident working independently, while also managing, motivating and empowering teams to perform well, both in person and remotely.
As an excellent communicator, you will build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders and help give customers confidence in the safety of their homes. We will support you with training and development, wellbeing support, paid volunteering time, company sick pay, a generous benefits package and annual leave that increases over your first five years. If building safety is at the heart of what you do, and you are ready to go the extra mile, we would love to hear from you.
Lead all aspects of fire and building safety across Magna homes, excluding areas managed by specialist teams unless there is crossover, ensuring high-risk buildings are managed in line with legislation and Building Safety Cases are maintained.
Devise and manage fire risk assessment programmes and resulting works with appointed contractors, ensuring actions are risk assessed, prioritised, completed on time and aligned with regulatory expectations.
Manage the Building Safety Team, including surveyors, contracts managers and administrative colleagues, acting as an escalation point for technical issues, supplier disputes and customer complaints.
Oversee cyclical maintenance programmes for active and passive fire safety measures, including fire doors and alarms, while supporting new developments through input into specifications, fire strategies and design reviews.
Work with Fire and Rescue Services, primary authorities, operational teams and other stakeholders to strengthen safety culture, develop procedures and guidance, deliver training, monitor performance data, report to Board level and manage budgets with accurate forecasting.
What you need to be successful:
Membership of a relevant professional body, such as the Institute of Fire Engineers or Institute of Fire Safety Managers, with up-to-date Continuous Professional Development records.
A Level 3 Award in Fire Risk Assessment, or an equivalent qualification - (NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety)
Experience managing a mobile workforce, with the ability to motivate and support colleagues working across different locations.
Strong demonstrable knowledge of relevant fire safety legislation and standards, including the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Building Safety Act 2022, Approved Document B and relevant British Standards.
Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work across teams and organisational levels to drive continuous improvement and raise building safety competence.
