We are seeking a highly motivated, flexible, and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Construction Support & Job Coach. This role combines practical support within our construction provision with employability and job coaching responsibilities, supporting learners with EHCPs and additional needs to develop vocational skills, gain qualifications, access meaningful work placements, and progress towards employment.
The successful candidate will work closely with learners, employers, tutors, families, and external agencies to ensure learners receive the support necessary to achieve their individual goals.

Main purpose of Role
To provide high-quality support to learners within the Construction Department and in community and workplace settings, helping them to:
- Develop vocational construction skills.
- Achieve qualifications and learning outcomes.
- Access meaningful work experience and supported internships.
- Build confidence, independence, employability, and social skills.
- Progress into employment, apprenticeships, further education, or independent living opportunities.
The role will involve a combination of classroom support, practical workshop support, work placement development, job coaching, learner mentoring, and administrative responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Learner Support
- Provide 1:1 and group-based support to learners with EHCPs and additional support needs.
- Support learners during practical construction sessions, ensuring activities are completed safely and effectively.
- Assist learners in understanding instructions, developing practical skills, and achieving qualification outcomes.
- Support learners in developing independence, confidence, communication, and social skills.
- Act as a key worker for identified learners, providing regular wellbeing support and progress monitoring.
- Help learners address barriers to learning, attendance, engagement, and employment.
- Support learners with emotional regulation and behaviour management strategies where required.
Job Coaching & Employability
- Work with learners to identify career aspirations and employment goals.
- Develop vocational profiles and individual action plans.
- Seek, secure, and maintain suitable work placements, supported internships, and employment opportunities.
- Build strong relationships with local employers, particularly within the construction industry.
- Liaise with employers to design placement opportunities tailored to learners' needs.
- Conduct regular workplace visits and monitor learner progress.
- Provide on-site job coaching and workplace support where required.
- Support learners in developing workplace skills, behaviours, and confidence.
- Maintain regular communication with employers regarding learner progress and support requirements.
Construction Department Support
- Assist tutors during practical construction activities.
- Support the preparation, organisation, and maintenance of tools, equipment, materials, and workshop areas.
- Promote safe working practices and ensure learners follow health and safety procedures.
- Support risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Help maintain a clean, organised, and professional learning environment.
- Support learners in completing practical tasks, projects, and portfolio evidence.
Work Placement & Qualification Evidence
- Gather evidence of learner progress and achievements for qualification purposes.
- Take photographs, witness statements, observations, and other forms of evidence in line with awarding body requirements.
- Upload and organise evidence within online portfolio systems.
- Support learners in building and maintaining their vocational portfolios.
- Work with tutors, assessors, and internal quality assurance staff to ensure learner evidence requirements are met.
Administration & Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate learner records and documentation.
- Complete daily learner chronologies and case notes.
- Record learner progress, achievements, attendance, and support interventions.
- Maintain work placement diaries and monitoring records.
- Produce reports, reviews, and progress updates as required.
- Ensure all records are completed in accordance with data protection and organisational requirements.
Community & Enrichment Activities
- Support learners during educational visits, community projects, enrichment activities, sporting activities, and events.
- Organise and support learners to participate in local community and employer engagement events.
- Promote inclusion and positive participation in all activities.
Partnership Working
- Liaise effectively with:
- Families and carers
- Employers
- Tutors and curriculum staff
- SEND professionals
- Local authorities
- Social workers and support agencies
- Attend reviews, meetings, training sessions, and multidisciplinary discussions as required.

Person Specification
Essential Criteria
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Experience supporting young people or vulnerable individuals.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good organisational and administrative skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Good ICT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and online systems.
- Ability to motivate and engage young people with additional needs.
- Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities.
- Flexible and adaptable approach to work.
- High standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and integrity.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience working with learners with SEND and EHCPs.
- Experience within construction, trades, maintenance, or vocational learning environments.
- Experience of job coaching or supported employment.
- Knowledge of supported internships and employability programmes.
- Experience gathering evidence for accredited qualifications and online portfolios.
- Experience undertaking workplace risk assessments.
- Experience working within schools, colleges, or training providers.
- First Aid qualification.
- D1 entitlement on driving licence.

Additional Responsibilities
The post holder may be required to undertake additional duties appropriate to the grade and nature of the role, as reasonably requested by the Centre Manager or Senior Leadership Team.
