Job Summary
The Simulator Maintenance Technician (Sim Tech) will be based at Burgess Hill and will report direct to the Training Centre Maintenance Manager (TCMM).
The Sim Tech role involves day to day running and proactive maintenance of up to four commercial Full Flight Simulators (FFS) and Fixed Based Trainers based at our Burgess Hill Training Facility.
The Sim Tech will be required, in the execution of their duties, to comply with regulatory requirements and work in accordance with the procedures applicable to their tasks. Any potential for non-compliance or the introduction of a hazard or risk will need to be reported to the TCMM, as well as recommendations for improvements to procedure or process.
The Sim Tech is also required to make themselves familiar with, and comply with, all QSL Health and Safety procedures and complete all courses in a reasonable time when requested. The Sim Tech will familiarise themselves with risk assessments, method statements, COSHH procedures, LockOut TagOut etc.
The Sim Tech will be trained in alignment with their role and responsibilities as per the Company training matrix. They shall be trained in the Company Safety Management System to the level defined on the training requirements matrix for their role, and any specific health and safety responsibilities.
The Sim Tech’s primary role is to:-
- Perform preventive maintenance tasks on the simulators and associated simulator systems.
- Assist in diagnosing and correcting problems on the simulators and associated simulator systems.
- Utilise the maintenance management system to record and track maintenance activities.
- Perform secondary duties e.g. calibrations, tool inspections etc.
- Perform pre-flight checks prior to the days operations.
- Perform basic visual alignments.
- Carry out minor repairs in the workshop to include soldering and crimping.
- Perform logistics duties, including parts received, repair, and testing/validation
- Run automatic and manual Qualification Test Guide (QTG).
- Comply with QSL quality management system.
- Provide customer service support and address customer needs in a timely manner.
- Perform housekeeping functions to maintain the simulators as required.
- Perform administrative tasks as required.
- Be aware of Part ORA and CS-FSTD(A) regulations.
The Sim Tech role involves working a variable work pattern which may be changed at any time to meet the Company and customer needs. Currently this is a 12 hour shift on a 4 on 4 off pattern. Flexibility in the approach to working is a key requirement for this role. The role covers currently a 24 x 7 working pattern.
The role also involves carrying out adhoc building maintenance duties as and when required.

The following knowledge and experience is essential for this role:-
- An understanding of Electrical / Electronic systems
- An understanding of fault finding principles and corrective measures techniques
- Working knowledge of Flight Simulator systems (to include some or all of the following; Avionics, Aircraft Systems, IO, Motion, Control Loading, Visual)
The following experience would also be an advantage:-
- Experience of working on Boeing and/or Airbus simulators.
- Experience of CAE, and/or Sim Industries, TRU Training Devices
- Experience gained in a customer support or client facing role
- Proactive completion of routine Preventative Maintenance activities
- Checking of Qualification Test Guides (QTG’s)
The following qualifications would be beneficial:-
- HNC/HND in aircraft related discipline (Avionics)
- HNC/HND in Electrical & Electronic Engineering
