The Role
This role has a strong operational focus, with responsibility for the day-to-day management of the finance function, as well as supporting the Finance Director with month-end procedures and the preparation of management accounts.
Key Responsibilities
Finance Support:
- Aged receivables (invoicing, customer payment reconciliation, credit control)
- Aged creditors (checking supplier bills are processed correctly in line with POs and deliveries, and other purchases)
- Credit card reconciliations
- Processing staff expenses
- Bank reconciliations
- Preparation of supplier payment runs
- Factoring facility management and month-end reconciliation
- Preparation of VAT returns
- Preparation of payroll
- Assisting in the preparation of month-end accounts (gathering data from other departments/sources, updating schedules, and posting journals)
- Ad hoc assistance to the Finance Director
Operations:
- Provide holiday cover for the Commercial Operations Administrator (closing deals, raising supplier purchase orders, and providing sales support)
HR Support:
- Issue commission statements, pay rise letters, and staff documentation
- Book and minute annual reviews
- Maintain contracts, policies, handbook, and HR records
Office Administration:
- Managing external contractors (cleaning, alarm systems, and maintenance as required)
- Booking and managing event attendance (as required)
About You
We don't expect you to know everything from day one. We are looking for someone who is keen to learn and take responsibility.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Previous experience in a similar finance, accounts, or bookkeeping role
- Good understanding of day-to-day finance processes
- Strong numerical and analytical skills, with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Xero (or similar software)
- Strong organisational and record-keeping skills
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of routine finance activities
- Good communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with customers, suppliers, and colleagues
- High level of accuracy and commitment to maintaining financial controls and confidentiality
- Driving licence required due to office location
Desirable:
- AAT qualification or equivalent is desirable but not essential; candidates must be able to demonstrate relevant experience in a similar role.
