Full job description

Overview
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Excavator Operator specialised in operations. We are a countryside contracting business based just outside of Bath and have projects involving forestry/tree work, as well as ponds/rivers/wetland creation and enhancement UK wide. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating heavy machinery to assist in these projects, ensuring safety, efficiency, and environmental compliance. We have 3t and 9t machines within our fleet, with occasional use of 14t+ machines subject to the requirements of each project. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a strong mechanical aptitude and experience in countryside environments to contribute to sustainable land management and enhancement activities.

Responsibilities

Operate excavators and related heavy machinery safely and efficiently within forestry sites.
Assist with land clearing, tree removal, and site preparation activities.
Assist with excavations of ponds, scrapes, channels and other water courses.
Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Follow all safety protocols and environmental regulations during operations.
Collaborate with team members to plan and execute tasks effectively.
Maintain accurate records of work performed and equipment usage.
Support other operational activities such as transporting materials using commercial vehicles when required.
Some stay away work, accommodation always provided where needed.
Experience
Proven experience operating excavators in forestry or similar environments.
Mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot minor equipment issues and perform basic repairs.
Valid driving licence as sites are often remote.
Familiarity with safety standards related to heavy machinery operation and forestry work.
Prior experience working in environmentally sensitive areas is advantageous but not essential. This role requires a dedicated professional capable of working outdoors in varying weather conditions, with a focus on safety, precision, and environmental stewardship.

Pay: £20.00-£25.00 per hour
