The Position
This is a key role which supports and delivers payroll bureau services to clients. This is a client-facing role, providing an excellent opportunity to develop technical payroll knowledge while building strong communication and customer service skills.
You will support the delivery of accurate and compliant payroll services to a diverse client base, while working towards a professional payroll qualification.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Processing Support
- Assist with the preparation and processing of weekly and monthly payrolls for a portfolio of clients.
- Input and validate payroll data, including starters, leavers, salary changes, and statutory payments.
- Support the calculation of PAYE, National Insurance, pension contributions, and other deductions.
- Help ensure payroll deadlines are met and outputs are accurate.
Client Facing Responsibilities
- Act as a first point of contact for client queries (via email and telephone), escalating where appropriate.
- Support the resolution of routine payroll queries in a professional and timely manner.
- Build positive working relationships with clients, maintaining a high standard of service.
- Assist in communicating payroll information clearly to non-specialist clients.
Compliance and Administration
- Maintain accurate payroll records in line with HMRC requirements.
- Assist with Real Time Information (RTI) submissions and year-end processes (e.g. P60s, P11Ds where applicable).
- Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, company procedures, and data protection requirements.
- Support auto-enrolment pension administration.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- To hold GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English grades 4/C or above.
- Possess good organisational and time management skills and a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Have strong written and verbal communication skills and be professional and client-focused approach.
- Have a willingness to learn and develop within a payroll/accountancy environment.
- Be resilient and have ability to work under pressure and maintain your professional self.
- Be curious and willing to learn and have initiative to generate ideas.
Pay: £16,200.00-£27,465.00 per year
