You will normally be required to undertake your duties Monday to Friday between the hours 9.00 and 17.30 with an hour’s break for lunch (37.5 hours). Where site work is required, earlier starts and later finishes may be necessary. We are also able to offer flexible working with Line Manager approval.

About the Role:
We have a fantastic opportunity for a graduate to join our team based in Bristol. As a Graduate Geoenvironmental Consultant, you will gain training and experience in the following:
· Phase 1 desk studies including site walkovers.
· Phase 2 site investigations (supervising drill rigs, sample collection and trial pits).
· Groundwater / ground gas monitoring and surveying.
· Scheduling of environmental and geotechnical laboratory testing.
· Factual and interpretative report writing.
· Supervising earthworks and remediation contracts.

We’re looking for a recent graduate in geology, earth science or similar discipline keen to kickstart their career within the engineering consultancy sector. Your personal development, training and future opportunities:
We will support your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) working with you to identify your training needs to support personal and business development goals. You will also be personally responsible for reading technical documents to develop and maintain your relevant technical expertise.
Performance reviews will be conducted annually. Interim reviews will be conducted every 6 months.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
A more detailed overview of the typical tasks and responsibilities for your role is provided in subsequent sections. However, you may also be asked to perform tasks outside this from time to time, with appropriate training/support if necessary, or as otherwise necessary to support the business.
Project and Client Management
· Book and manage sub-contractors in accordance with the project scope and in line with all relevant company procedures.
· Communicate any problems or variations to the Project Director in a timely manner to allow for alternative sub-contractor arrangements to be made if necessary.
· Review sub-contractor costs/invoices, highlighting any errors or discrepancies to the Project Director and challenge supplier costs as appropriate.
· Assist in maintenance of internal approved supplier database. Assist with reviewing subcontractor documents and liaise with the team and subcontractors to ensure we have up to date information.
· Collate and check relevant H&S information for sub-contractors in advance of site works.
· Management of simple projects e.g. single activity fieldwork (trial pitting), including financial oversight and preparation of invoices in line with company standards and procedures.
· Become familiar with principles of ground investigation design in discussion with the Project Director and with reference to the proposal/client requirements.
· Ensure correct resources/plant are allocated accordingly with support from the Programme Manager and Project Director.
· Communicate key project progress dates/timescales and technical findings to the client as required.
· Resolve client or director frustrations/problems within a maximum 48hr timescale or otherwise arrange and communicate alternative action.
· Undertake client follow up as necessary.
Fieldwork
· Prepare health and safety documentation for site works.
· Ensure your activities are compliant with all relevant company health and safety procedures and any project specific procedures.
· Communicate fieldwork/equipment issues and problems during the monthly Engineers Meeting or sooner if required.
· Undertake soil logging according to relevant standards and protocols. Become familiar with rock logging in accordance with relevant standards.
· Become competent in geotechnical/environmental soil/groundwater sampling independently in accordance with relevant standards/protocols.
· Become familiar with completion of driller’s instructions/specifications for sub-contractors including monitoring well installation details, with support of senior staff and with reference to the proposal.
· Assisting with initially and working towards supervision/management of small ground investigations e.g. single activity/small site in line with company health and safety procedures.
· Manage and supervise infiltration testing for soakaway design.
· Undertake falling/rising head tests.
· Manage and undertake gas/groundwater monitoring.
· Undertake GPS surveys to record exploratory hole co-ordinates.
· Undertake site reconnaissance/features surveys.
· Assist and become familiar with gas membrane/remediation validation inspections.
· Other field activities as may be reasonably required.
Technical (office)
· Prepare exploratory hole logs in accordance relevant standards becoming familiar with use of OpenGround/AGS.
· Completion of data entry/data manipulation, including exploratory hole logs, CBRs, infiltration tests, gas and groundwater monitoring.
· Prepare Phase 1 Desk Study reports, sections of ground investigation reports and other simple interpretative letter reports.
· Completion of geotechnical and environmental lab scheduling with support from the Project Director, as required.
· Preparation of client feedback emails following completion of fieldwork with support from the Project Director.
· Become familiar with environmental risk assessment including completion of Generic Quantitative Risk Assessments and use of statistical assessment.
· Become familiar with simple geotechnical principles and provision of basic foundation advice.
· Become familiar with the principles of DoWCoP.
Pay: £25,000.00-£27,500.00 per year
