Based in Bristol, we specialise in designing, building, and installing bespoke play environments for schools, public parks, leisure attractions, and commercial developers. We work with prestigious partners—including the Eden Project, National Trust, and Forestry England—to deliver highly crafted, sustainable, and durable outdoor structures.As we continue to grow our portfolio of unique builds, we are looking for a commercial-minded Quantity Surveyor / Estimator to join our team ahead of our winter planning cycle.The RoleThis is a hands-on, multi-faceted commercial role. Because we build bespoke, non-standard timber and steel structures, you will not just be staring at standard pricing models. You will own the commercial process from initial drawing through to final account, bridging the gap between estimating and material procurement.
Key Responsibilities
- Estimating & Drawing Take-offs: Accurately measure and quantify materials (groundworks, timber frames, safety surfacing, and bespoke play units) from landscape architect and internal design drawings.
- Procurement & Quote Management: Issue specification packages to specialist suppliers and subcontractors (timber merchants, steel fabricators, play equipment manufacturers) to secure firm, competitive quotes.
- Cost Saving & Value Engineering: Analyze project designs to identify smart, sustainable cost-saving alternatives without compromising the natural aesthetic or strict safety compliance of our playscapes.
- Commercial Supply Management: Lead the setup of new commercial trade accounts, negotiate improved credit limits, and secure volume discounts with primary material suppliers to optimize business cash flow.
- Contract & Variation Tracking: Monitor project costs against budgets, manage variations when designs change, and ensure commercial margins are protected through the build phase.
Experience & Requirements
- Industry Background: Minimum 3+ years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Estimator, ideally within subcontractor civil engineering, groundworks, landscaping, or bespoke timber/steel framing.
- The "Multi-Hat" Mindset: Comfortable blending traditional QS duties with hands-on buying, supplier negotiation, and account setup.
- Tech-Savvy: Proficient in MS Excel and digital take-off software (e.g., Bluebeam, CostX, or similar).
- Location: Able to commute to our Bristol base for collaborative "in-office" days, with the flexibility to work productively from home on focus-driven days.
