ShoptoDonate is the eco-community shop operated by Get Rid of and Donate CIC (GROAD). We support vulnerable individuals and families by giving donated items a second life, reducing waste, promoting sustainability, and strengthening our local community.
The Role
We are looking for a friendly, reliable and enthusiastic Shop Assistant to support the day-to-day operation of our charity shop. The successful candidate will be flexible and available to work weekdays and weekends as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide excellent customer service and welcome visitors to the shop.
- Sort, price and display donated items.
- Operate the till and process sales transactions.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and presentation throughout the shop.
- Receive and process donations from members of the public.
- Support stock rotation and merchandising.
- Assist with fundraising activities and community events.
- Work alongside volunteers and support community engagement activities.
Essential Requirements
- Experience working in a charity shop or community retail environment.

- Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Desirable Skills and Experience
- Experience supervising or supporting volunteers.
- Knowledge of second-hand retail and donated goods.
- Basic IT, social media and online selling experience.
- Understanding of diverse communities and cultures.
- Ability to speak one or more additional languages commonly used within our community, including:
- Persian (Farsi) – Iran
- Arabic – Sudan and Morocco
- Spanish – Spain
- Other community languages are welcomed and encouraged.

Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly and assist them with their shopping needs
- Maintain visual merchandising standards to enhance product displays
- Handle transactions accurately using the point-of-sale system
- Upsell products to maximise sales opportunities
- Provide excellent phone etiquette when answering customer enquiries
- Manage stock levels, organise stockroom, and restock shelves as needed
- Assist in organising promotional events and seasonal displays
- Support organisational tasks such as cleaning, tidying, and general shop maintenance
- Communicate effectively with team members to ensure efficient store operations
Qualifications
- Fluency in English; proficiency in Spanish or other languages is advantageous
- Strong communication skills and friendly phone manner
- Basic maths skills for handling cash and transactions accurately
- Organisational skills with the ability to manage time effectively during busy periods
- Experience or interest in merchandising and retail environments is desirable
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work well within a team and independently when required
- Previous experience in customer service or retail roles is a plus but not essential
