Ferny Crofts is a 31 acre Scout Activity Centre in the heart of the New Forest National Park. With a stunning location, Ferny Crofts boasts a whole host of outdoor activities, camping for 500 people, and a variety of indoor accommodation.
Ferny Crofts Scout Activity Centre currently has an exciting opportunity available for three 13 month Apprenticeships in Activity Leadership (Level 3 Apprenticeship in Outdoor Activity Instructor). You will be trained to assist / deliver a wide range of outdoor and adventure activities as well as learning about the general day-to-day running of a busy outdoor activity centre.
Ferny Crofts Activity Centre delivers a various activities including; Climbing, Raft Building, High Ropes, Archery, Zip Wire, Bushcraft, Team Building activities, Tomahawk Throwing, Abseiling and many more!
This post will also require the candidates to work in an assistant capacity across the site to obtain an all-round knowledge of centre-based work. All staff are expected to do their share of cleaning and other maintenance work as part of the role. Training is given in all areas as part of the position.

While working at Ferny Crofts you will be trained in the following qualifications:
Level 3 Outdoor Activity instructor Standard
Functional Skills in Maths & English if required
ITC Level 3 in Outdoor First Aid
A wider skills package of learner development courses as part of the programme. This includes a range of Practical Skills Development Courses, NGB and First Aid training, Education, Training and Assessment courses and Learning Beyond the Classroom.
Day to Day Duties:
- Assisting/Leading with activities
- Assisting with the cleaning of accommodation buildings and site amenities and maintenance of equipment and site
- Liaising with customers and other members of staff
Desirable Qualifications Required:
Essential Qualifications Required:
- Have completed Level 2 in English & Maths.
Skills Required:
Desirable: Some experience in outdoor activities.
Essential: A passion for personal development through outdoor activities.
Personal Qualities: Outgoing, approachable, well presented, friendly, committed, enthusiastic, independent, fit and keen to learn. A positive drive to develop your personal skills in adventurous activities is essential.
Weekly/Annual wage: £9.00 per hour (£1.00 more than the Apprentice National Minimum Wage). Free Lunches & Accommodation is available on site as part of this opportunity for the first 12 months, in the 13 month you can opt in to paying for lunches and accommodation or opt out if travelling in each day and making own lunches.
Working Week /Hours: 30 hours a week – annualised (can include weekends and weekly hours will vary) Hours will vary and be higher in the busiest parts of the summer season.
