Full job description

Role Overview

This is a hands-on role responsible for the day-to-day management of stock, materials and tools across our workshop. Reporting to the Head of Workshop & Logistics, you'll play a key role in ensuring materials are organised, inventory records are accurate, and the workshop has the resources it needs to deliver projects efficiently.

The role combines practical warehouse and stockroom responsibilities with inventory control, record keeping and continuous improvement of systems, supporting both workshop operations and quality standards.

Responsibilities

Stockroom Management

- Organise and maintain a clean, safe and efficient stockroom.

- Ensure all materials are clearly labelled, accessible and stored logically.

- Maintain organised storage systems.

Goods In & Materials Handling

- Receive, inspect and record incoming deliveries.

- Ensure materials are stored in the correct locations.

- Follow safe handling procedures for all materials and equipment.

Inventory Control

- Monitor stock levels and usage patterns.

- Identify frequently used items and coordinate timely reordering.

- Maintain accurate inventory records and minimise stock discrepancies.

- Carry out regular stock checks and reconciliations.

Tools Management

- Maintain a tracking system for workshop tools and equipment.

- Ensure tools are stored correctly and remain in good working condition.

- Coordinate maintenance and replacement of tools where required.

Documentation & Record Keeping

- Maintain clear, accurate and accessible records for stock, materials and tools.

- Support the transition from paper-based to digital record-keeping systems.

- Ensure documentation is kept up to date and readily available.

Systems & Continuous Improvement

- Contribute to the development and improvement of inventory processes and systems.

- Support quality control initiatives and continuous improvement activities.

- Assist with preparation for ISO 9000 audits and compliance requirements.

Communication & Coordination

- Work closely with workshop teams and department leads to ensure materials are available when needed.

- Communicate stock levels, shortages and material requirements effectively across the business.

Required Skills & Experience

- Experience in inventory control, stores, warehouse or materials management, or a similar role.

- Strong organisational and record-keeping skills with excellent attention to detail.

- Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.

- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively.

- Competent IT skills, including experience using stock management and Microsoft Office systems.

- A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.

Desirable

- Experience working in a manufacturing, construction or workshop environment.

- Experience using electronic inventory or stock management systems.

- Understanding of quality management systems, including ISO 9000.

- Forklift licence (or willingness to obtain one).
