Job Summary
This is a hands-on, client-facing tailoring role working alongside our Chief Tailor. You will take direction from him on complex jobs, support the daily workflow of the studio, and bring your own skill and care to every garment — from a simple hem to a formal suit or gown alteration. In-store fittings are a fundamental part of the job: you will measure clients, conduct fitting appointments, explain options clearly, and maintain digital records of all work.
Duties
Tailoring & Alterations
- Work alongside the Chief Tailor, following his direction
- Perform high-quality alterations using both hand-sewing and industrial sewing machines

- Complete complex garment work including suit jacket sleeve shortening (with functioning buttons) and party gown or formal dress hemming
- Carry out everyday repairs: zip replacements, darning, button replacements and reinforcement, fabric repairs
- Handle delicate, embellished, and structured fabrics with expert care
- Adapt garment designs while preserving original structure, proportions, and design intent
Client Fittings & Measurement
- Conduct in-store fittings with clients, marking required alterations and explaining all fit options clearly
- Take and record accurate client measurements using a tape measure
- Liaise directly with clients to interpret their styling needs, body proportions, and alteration requirements
- Manage client appointments with professionalism, discretion, and warmth
Quality & Digital Records
- Maintain accurate digital records of all alterations, measurements, and completed work
- Inspect garments before and after alteration to ensure flawless execution
- Manage daily workflow and turnaround times in line with studio requirements
- Keep the tailoring workspace clean, organised, and properly equipped
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience as a tailor, seamstress, or alterations specialist — you don't need to be a lead; you need to be skilled, reliable, and keen to learn
- Confident conducting client fittings and taking measurements in a professional, client-facing environment
- Strong expertise across a wide range of fabrics, garment types, and construction techniques
- Fluent in English — clear communication with clients and the team is essential
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and takes genuine pride in the quality of their work
- Comfortable working in a small studio team and managing your own daily workflow
- Based in or near Eltham, Bromley, or Dartford — within roughly 40 minutes commute
