About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Finance Assistant to join our growing finance team.
This is a dedicated finance role and is best suited to someone with previous experience in finance, accounts, or bookkeeping. You will play an important role in supporting the day-to-day running of the finance function, ensuring financial records are accurate, transactions are processed correctly, and key finance processes are completed efficiently and on time.
The successful candidate will have hands-on experience across core finance activities such as invoicing, reconciliations, credit control, payroll support, and financial reporting. This role offers the opportunity to develop your knowledge across multiple areas of finance while working closely with colleagues throughout the business.
As part of a supportive team, you will receive ongoing development opportunities, including support towards an AAT qualification following successful completion of probation.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the finance inbox and respond to finance-related queries in a timely and professional manner.
- Raise, process and maintain sales and purchase invoices.
- Process purchase orders and maintain accurate supporting records.
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
- Perform bank reconciliations and assist with the processing of financial transactions.
- Support credit control activities and customer account management.
- Assist with payroll preparation and processing activities.
- Prepare and maintain financial reports, schedules and reconciliation records.
- Support month-end processes and finance reporting requirements.
- Maintain accurate financial records and documentation.
- Liaise with colleagues, suppliers and external providers regarding finance matters.
- Identify opportunities to improve finance processes and controls.
- Provide cover for other members of the finance team when required.
About You
You are an organised and dependable finance professional who enjoys working with numbers and takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality work.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Minimum 12 months' experience in a Finance Assistant, Accounts Assistant, Bookkeeper, Purchase Ledger, Sales Ledger, or similar finance role.
- Experience processing invoices and maintaining accurate financial records.
- Experience completing bank reconciliations.
- Experience supporting credit control activities.
- Experience supporting payroll processes.
- Ability to identify discrepancies, investigate issues and resolve them appropriately.
- Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Professional communication and relationship-building skills.
- Positive, proactive and accountable approach to work.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Experience using accounting software such as Xero.
- Understanding of VAT processes and requirements.
- Experience supporting FCA-regulated reporting requirements.
- Currently studying towards, or interested in pursuing, an AAT qualification.
