About Us

Essential Marketer is a well-established digital marketing and web agency based in Bromsgrove, just south of Birmingham. With over 15 years of industry experience, we work with SMEs, national and international brands across e-commerce, professional services and home improvement sectors.

You will join a close-knit and growing team with opportunities to develop your technical skills, work on a wide range of web projects and progress within the agency.

The Role

As a Junior Web Developer, you will support the development, maintenance and optimisation of websites across a variety of CMS platforms and client projects. You will work closely with our development, SEO and marketing teams to deliver high-quality, responsive and user-friendly websites.

This role is ideal for someone with a genuine passion for coding and technology who is looking to build commercial experience within a fast-paced agency environment.

You will have the opportunity to work on:

New website builds
Website updates and maintenance
Front-end and back-end development tasks
Shopify and WordPress projects
Performance and functionality improvements
Integrations with third-party tools and platforms

Junior candidates will receive support and guidance from senior team members, with opportunities to develop into a more advanced development role over time.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in the development and maintenance of client websites
Build and update websites across WordPress, Shopify and other CMS platforms
Support front-end development using HTML, CSS and JavaScript
Assist with back-end functionality and PHP development tasks
Work collaboratively with SEO and PPC teams to implement website improvements
Troubleshoot website issues and support ongoing maintenance tasks
Ensure websites are responsive, functional and optimised across devices
Participate in internal project meetings and development planning
Stay up to date with emerging web technologies and development best practices

Requirements

Essential Skills:

Working knowledge of HTML and CSS
Basic understanding of PHP and JavaScript
Familiarity with WordPress and/or Shopify
Basic understanding of MySQL databases
Familiarity with hosting environments such as Plesk or cPanel
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Interest in web technologies and modern development practices
Ability to showcase a website, app or coding project you have built

Desirable Skills:

Experience using version control systems such as Git
Understanding of website performance optimisation
Familiarity with APIs or third-party integrations
Knowledge of responsive design principles
Interest in AI-assisted development tools and workflows
Familiarity with Google Workspace tools
