We offer a hand-picked selection of quality used cars and commercials from virtually every major manufacturer from everyday hatchbacks through to prestige brands including Bentley, Porsche, Land Rover and BMW.
Alongside our retail operation, we run two additional services that set us apart:
- The Drivers Gallery Car Buying Service — we buy vehicles directly from the public, offering fast, hassle-free valuations and same-day purchases
- Trade Logistica — our dedicated logistics company providing fully insured, UK-wide vehicle transport and trade plate driving services, specialising in vehicle check movements across the country

THE ROLE
As Workshop Controller, you will be based at our Bournheath storage and prep centre, the operational hub that keeps everything moving. You will be responsible for ensuring every retail vehicle is prepared to our high standards and ready for sale promptly, and that every sold car is prepped and handed over without delay. You will also oversee the full servicing and maintenance schedule for our fleet of trailers and tow trucks used by Trade Logistica.
This is a hands-on management role requiring strong organisational skills, automotive knowledge, and the ability to juggle multiple jobs simultaneously. You will own the warranty process, manage parts ordering, and keep the centre running like clockwork.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Workshop & Vehicle Preparation
- Control the daily flow of the workshop, prioritising and scheduling all prep work across retail stock and sold vehicles
- Ensure all retail cars are prepped to The Drivers Gallery standard within target timescales, ready for photography, listing, and sale
- Ensure sold vehicles are fully prepared and ready for handover without delay, keeping the sales team updated throughout
- Oversee the quality of all preparation work leaving the centre
- Keep the prep centre organised, clean, safe, and operating efficiently at all times
Fleet & Equipment Management
- Manage and maintain a full service schedule for all company trailers and tow trucks operated by Trade Logistica
- Ensure all vehicles and equipment are kept roadworthy, legally compliant, and serviced on time
- Coordinate bookings with service providers and maintain all fleet maintenance records
In-House Warranty Administration
- Maintain and update the warranty spreadsheet for all retail vehicles, keeping all records accurate and current
- Manage customer warranty claims from initial contact through to resolution, keeping customers fully informed at every stage
- Liaise with technicians and parts suppliers to progress warranty work efficiently and cost-effectively
- Handle all warranty customer communications professionally, providing clear updates on progress and timescales
Parts Ordering & Supplies
- Source and order all parts required for vehicle preparation, repairs, and warranty work
- Build and maintain relationships with parts suppliers to ensure competitive pricing and fast turnaround
- Manage parts stock levels within the prep centre to reduce delays and waste
Administration & Reporting
- Keep all workshop records, job cards, and preparation logs up to date
- Report regularly to management on prep centre throughput, outstanding jobs, and any issues
- Support continuous improvement as the business grows
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We need an experienced candidate who can hit the ground running. This is not an entry-level role you will need a proven background in a similar workshop control, service advisor, or prep management position within the motor trade.
Essential Experience & Skills
- Previous experience in a workshop controller, service controller, or prep centre management role
- Strong understanding of vehicle preparation processes and quality standards
- Experience managing workshop job flow, scheduling, and turnaround times
- Confident communicator able to keep customers and colleagues informed professionally
- Competent with spreadsheets and administrative tasks (warranty records, job tracking)
- Experience ordering parts and dealing with automotive suppliers
- Highly organised with a strong eye for detail
- Self-motivated and able to manage your own workload independently
Desirable
- Experience working within a used car dealership environment
- Familiarity with vehicle warranty administration
- Knowledge of trailer and tow vehicle maintenance requirements
- Experience thriving within a fast-paced, expanding business
SALARY & BENEFITS
- Basic Salary: £40,000 per year
- Monthly Bonus: Up to £500 per month based on performance
- OTE: £46,000 per year
