Job Purpose
As a Category Manager for Small Format & Booklets, you will be responsible for your product portfolio and fulfiller network. Our products & how we position them are at the centre of everything we do!
You will have the drive and passion, together with strong analytical skills to constantly improve and expand our product range, focussing on revenue growth. You will play an active role in shaping not just what we sell, but how it is presented and merchandised on site, influencing the way our range is positioned, structured, and sold to customers.
Working with many stakeholders across the business you will support our growth plans by evaluating many data points, seeking input from key teams including Marketing, Sales, Production and Customer Success.
You will be responsible for setting the selling price, negotiating and understanding the costs to maintain a healthy gross margin. Conducting research and competitor analysis, to create and optimise our products, range placement and fulfiller selection.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Own the product backlog for your categories by ensuring there is sufficient supporting information collated to allow appropriate weighting in line with the company’s overall strategic vision
- Run project stand ups to ensure consistent progress from multiple stakeholders, discuss roadblocks and potential solutions and provide guidance on route forward
- Gather findings, provide commentary and conduct retrospective meetings to promote continuous improvement and ensure we release value from our efforts
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders throughout the business to understand departmental needs and the business context, identifying opportunities to provide insights
- Evaluate competitor analysis for product pricing, positioning, range structure and trends
- Evaluate product performance, optimising each product category in line with our strategic objectives
- Take ownership of how your categories are merchandised on site - including product placement, range hierarchy, and how the range is structured and navigated by customers with our Marketing team.
- Collaborate with the Marketing teams to ensure products are positioned and presented in a way that supports conversion and reflects the category strategy.
- Provide input on promotional marketing roadmaps ensuring they are consistent with product, merchandising and fulfilment & production strategies
- Evaluate fulfillers performance and increase volumes to create a robust and mutually beneficial fulfiller network
- Evaluate costs, margins and volumes of products and provide insights and commentary to support make or buy decisions of products
- Responsibility for maintaining our costing models and setting the selling price
- Perform risk management studies for our fulfiller network ensuring we have continuous supply to the quality our customers expect
- Responsibility for documentation of agreements, specifications, performance
The ideal candidate will bring experience to the role and will have:
- Previous experience of category management, buying, ecommerce merchandising or procurement
- An understanding of how product ranges are structured and presented online, and how merchandising decisions influence customer behaviour and sales
- Knowledge of pricing strategies and competitor analysis
- Strong interpersonal skills including cross functional stakeholder management, including the ability to manage conflict and change effectively
- Strong analytical, planning, and organisational skills with an ability to manage competing demands
- Commercial acumen and a strong knowledge and understanding of our business
- The tenacity to ensure objectives, goals, and commitments are met
- Excellent communications and presentation skills with the ability to tailor interactions to suit different stakeholder groups
- A creative approach to problem-solving with the ability to focus on details while maintaining the “big picture” view
- Proficiency in using MS Office with good knowledge of Excel, and ideally experience of using BI software (we use Looker)
It would be great if they brought:
- Experience in the print industry or knowledge of printed products
- Hands-on experience with ecommerce platforms or content management systems
- Experience optimising category pages, product listings or site navigation
Pay: £30,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
