Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.

Job Introduction

We’re recruiting a Community Learning MK Tutor to deliver Functional Skills and / or GCSE maths, supporting adults and young people aged sixteen and above to build the skills and confidence they need to succeed.

You’ll join Milton Keynes City Council’s Community Learning service, delivering inclusive education that responds to local need and helps improve life chances across the city.Our work contributes to stronger, healthier and more inclusive communities, supporting residents to progress, achieve recognised qualifications and work towards their personal goals.This is a rewarding role where your teaching makes a real difference to people’s lives.The post involves working in a regulated activity with adults and young people aged sixteen and above and is subject to the appropriate safeguarding checks.

Work Pattern

Working patterns are not fixed and may change to reflect service needs and teaching timetables. These are discussed and agreed between the Curriculum Manager and the tutor during academic year planning. An agreed working pattern will be documented annually and may be adjusted where necessary, following consultation and agreement.

Site-Based role

This is a Site-Based role, and you’ll be expected to work from the designated workplace.

Role Responsibilities

Plan and deliver high quality teaching and learning in designated curriculum areas using approved planning and assessment tools.
Adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of diverse learners within the community.
Work closely with Curriculum Managers and colleagues to support quality assurance and continuous improvement.
Maintain accurate learner records to meet funding and inspection requirements.
Support and mentor new or developing tutors as part of a collaborative team approach.
Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, health and safety and online safety in all aspects of delivery.

Ideal Candidate

A qualified tutor with degree level education or equivalent significant further education or adult teaching experience.
A recognised teaching qualification at level three or four, or a commitment to work towards one.
Knowledge and understanding of Ofsted requirements, with the ability to reflect on and improve own practice to strengthen teaching quality and learner outcomes.
An understanding of inspection and quality requirements and a commitment to reflective practice.
The ability to work sensitively and effectively with adult learners.
Confidence teaching both in person and online, adapting to different learning styles.

As part of the pre-employment checks, should you be offered the role, we’ll carry out an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, (unless you are currently registered with the DBS Update Service).

Applicants will be asked to provide information on their academic qualifications, teaching status, and ongoing CPD as part of the application to aid the selection process.
