Join Our Friendly Team at Neetside Surgery – Medical Secretary and/or Prescription Clerk
Neetside Surgery is a friendly, supportive GP practice in the heart of Bude, caring for around 6,500 patients. We’re proud of our Excellent CQC rating and, more importantly, of the positive, inclusive culture within our team.
Due to staff relocation, we are looking for an either an experienced Medical Secretary or prescription clerk to join our team — someone who enjoys helping people, is able to work as part of a close‑knit team, and wants to make a real difference in the community.
What you’ll be doing:
You’ll have a varied and engaging role, working both on reception and in our admin office. Your day may include:
- Welcoming and supporting patients in person and on the phone
- Secretarial duties, including typing hospital referral letters
- Booking appointments and responding to patient queries
- Processing prescriptions and registrations
- Managing incoming correspondence and general administration
- Supporting clinicians and colleagues to keep the practice running smoothly
- Processing incoming hospital correspondence
No two days at Neetside are ever the same — it is a fast-paced, busy environment.
Your working hours:
Part-time position of 34 hours per week:
Monday 9am - 6pm
Wednesday 8am - 6pm
Thursday 9am - 6:30pm
Friday 8am - 5:30pm
What We’re Looking For:
We are looking for someone who is:
- Friendly, organised, and dependable
- Calm and compassionate, even in busy situations
- Comfortable speaking with people from all walks of life
- Happy to learn new systems and processes
- Able to undertake mandatory staff training (most of which is online)
- A positive team player who pitches in and supports others
Flexibility is essential in this role — occasional additional hours may be needed to cover staff absences or holidays.
Our opening hours are 8:00am – 6:30pm, so covering shifts will vary within these times.
Essential skills & experience:
- Previous NHS reception or administration experience
- Secretarial or prescription experience within a GP Surgery
- GCSEs at minimum of Grade C or above in English and Maths
- Confidence in communication skills, including face‑to‑face, phone, and email
- Strong IT skills (email, word processing, general computer use)
Desirable skills & experience:
- Experience with SystmOne is a bonus, but full training can be provided
- Experience of working within a healthcare setting
