About the role
We are looking for a Base Coat Sprayer with a keen eye for detail to join our expanding finishing team at Arboretum. Working alongside our Top Coat Sprayer, you'll prepare and base coat free-standing cabinet furniture to a high standard, and provide spray cover during holiday periods and busy production runs.
We currently spray with A/C (acid catalyst) paints and are transitioning to water-based finishes, so a willingness to learn and adapt is important.
This role would suit an experienced base coater who can also sand and prepare. If you have less experience but are keen to learn, we'll train the right person and support you toward becoming a confident base coater.
Duties
- Surface preparation and de-nibbing between coats on free-standing cabinet furniture, ready to receive undercoat, second undercoat and top coat.
- Base coat spraying, including providing spray cover during holiday periods and priority production.
- Preparing paint stock ready for the sprayers.
- Assisting with lifting furniture in and out of spray booths.
- Keeping the work area tidy and organised, and ensuring safe storage of equipment and paint materials throughout the day and at the end of each shift.
- Working to health and safety guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
What we're looking for
- Experience as a base coater in a furniture or finishing environment, or hands-on experience with A/C paints — strongly preferred. Full training will be provided to the candidate who demonstrates the right attitude.
- A keen eye for detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- Willingness to learn and adapt as we transition to water-based finishes.
- A proactive attitude and the ability to work well in a small team as well as independently.
- Good physical fitness, as the role involves lifting and moving furniture.
Progression
This is a role with room to grow. We're keen to develop the right person's spraying skills so they can confidently base coat and provide cover across the finishing team. There is scope to build experience across A/C and water-based finishing as the business develops.
Pay & Benefits
- £13.50 – £14.50 per hour, depending on experience (e.g. base coat experience with furniture or A/C paint).
