Overview
Pulse Insurance has an Office in Norwich and we are looking to recruit a Trainee Underwriter who will support the underwriting team in the assessment, administration and management of insurance risks which are sport and leisure related. This role is designed to develop core underwriting skills, product knowledge and commercial awareness, with a clear progression pathway towards an Underwriter role.
The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience across underwriting, broker interaction, policy administration and portfolio management, while working under supervision and in line with agreed underwriting authority levels.
Key Responsibilities
Underwriting Support
- Assist in the underwriting of new business, renewals and mid-term adjustments in accordance with underwriting guidelines and delegated authority
- Support the assessment of risk information, exposures, and pricing data
- Prepare quotations, policy schedules, endorsements and supporting documentation
- Ensure terms issued accurately reflect underwriting intent and insurer requirements
Broker & Client Interaction
- Act as a point of contact for brokers for routine underwriting queries
- Gather and clarify underwriting information from brokers and clients
- Support relationship management by delivering timely, accurate and professional responses
- Handle queries on both telephone and email
Portfolio & Administration
- Maintain accurate underwriting records across systems and underwriting files
- Support bordereaux production, data quality checks and policy record maintenance
- Assist with underwriting audits, data requests and compliance checks
- Ensure all underwriting activity meets FCA, binder and internal governance standards
Learning & Development
- Build knowledge of insurance products, wordings, exclusions and rating structures
- Develop understanding of delegated authority arrangements and binders
- Work towards professional qualifications (e.g. CII) in line with business expectations and supported through this by Pulse
Skills
- Strong analytical skills with a focus on analysis and risk assessment.
- Organised with excellent attention to detail to ensure accuracy in documentation and data analysis.
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to evolving underwriting standards and procedures.
- Good organisational skills with the capacity to manage multiple tasks efficiently.

- Ideally degree or equivalent - minimum requirement 3 A-Levels
Pay: £24,420.00-£26,000.00 per year
