Job Summary
The Joinery Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the joinery workshop, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. The role involves managing production teams, coordinating materials and schedules, maintaining machinery and workshop standards, and liaising with clients, suppliers, designers, and site teams.
Key ResponsibilitiesWorkshop & Production Management
- Manage all workshop operations and joinery production activities.
- Plan and schedule workloads to meet project deadlines and client expectations.
- Monitor production efficiency and implement improvements where required.
- Ensure all joinery work meets company quality standards and specifications.
- Coordinate manufacturing processes from drawings through to finished products.
- Oversee installation coordination where applicable.
Team Leadership
- Lead, supervise, and motivate workshop staff, machinists, bench joiners, finishers, and apprentices.
- Allocate tasks and manage labour resources effectively.
- Conduct staff training, performance reviews, and development planning.
- Promote a positive and professional working environment.
Health & Safety
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety legislation and company procedures.
- Maintain safe workshop practices and ensure correct use of machinery and PPE.
- Carry out regular toolbox talks, risk assessments, and safety inspections.
- Investigate accidents or near misses and implement corrective actions.
Project & Commercial Oversight
- Review technical drawings, specifications, and production requirements.
- Assist with project planning, costing, and procurement as required.
- Monitor material usage and reduce waste where possible.
- Liaise with project managers, designers, architects, and clients to resolve technical or production issues.
- Ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget constraints.
Quality Control
- Implement and maintain quality assurance procedures.
- Conduct inspections throughout the manufacturing process.
- Ensure finished products meet client expectations and industry standards.
- Resolve production defects or quality concerns promptly.
Machinery & Workshop Maintenance
- Ensure machinery and equipment are maintained and serviced regularly.
- Coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance schedules.
- Maintain housekeeping standards across the workshop and storage areas.
Stock & Procurement
- Manage timber, hardware, and consumable stock levels.
- Coordinate material orders and supplier relationships.
- Ensure timely availability of materials for production schedules.
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience in a senior joinery, carpentry, or workshop management role.
- Strong technical knowledge of bespoke joinery manufacturing processes.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent leadership and people management skills.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
- Good understanding of health & safety regulations within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience managing production schedules and deadlines.
- Competent with workshop machinery and manufacturing equipment.
- IT literacy, including production scheduling and Microsoft Office software.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Carpentry & Joinery.
- SMSTS, SSSTS, or IOSH qualification desirable.
- First Aid certification desirable.
- Experience with CAD/CAM or joinery production software advantageous.
Working Conditions
- Workshop and office-based role with occasional site visits.
- Full-time position.
- Flexibility may be required to meet project deadlines.
Pay: £40,000.00-£60,000.00 per year
