Purpose of the job:
To work as part of the pre-school team under the direction of the Preschool Manager and Preschool Deputy. To supervise and provide lunch service for the children attending the setting while ensuring their individual needs are meet. To ensure the safety, general welfare and conduct of pupils during lunch.
Main duties
1. To supervise pupils in designated areas of the preschool during lunchtime and to ensure their safety, welfare and general conduct through appropriate application of the preschool's policies and procedures.
2. Support the Preschool Teachers in the delivery of the EYFS as directed by the Room Lead or Deputy Manager.
3. To work closely with the Preschool Teachers to ensure that we are providing the best educational experience and care for the children attending Preschool.
4. To support the children’s learning, offering an appropriate level of support and stimulating play experiences.
5. Follow guidelines concerning food safety standards and allergens.
6. To adhere to children’s care plans.
7. To ensure health and safety guidelines are upheld and followed in managing cleanliness and safety of the food preparation areas.
8. To understand and implement the preschool’s behaviour policy.
9. To establish safe and appropriate behaviour by effective intervention or referral to preschool staff.
10. To promote independence and the principles of healthy eating to the children and support their future transition to school.
11. To assist with the planning of the curriculum’s health and self-care principles using the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum for guidance.
12. Work in partnership with preschool staff, parents/carers and other family members.
13. To advise the Deputy or Manager of any concerns, e.g. over children, parents or the
safety of equipment, preserving confidentiality as necessary.
14. To plan and organise activities to promote healthy eating as requested by the Preschool Manager
15. To ensure that children are kept safe and that you understand when to follow child protection procedures.
16. To ensure that the preschool Safeguarding Children policy and procedures are adhered to at all times, and that concerns are raised in accordance with these.
17. To actively participate at team meetings, supervisor meetings and appraisal meetings.
18. To attend training courses as required and to take responsibility for your development.
19. To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff, which is acquired as part of the job.
20. To be aware of and adhere to all the setting’s operational policies and procedures, e.g. health and safety, fire precautions, dropping off and collection of children, food safety, cleanliness of the setting etc.
21. To ensure that adequate records are kept and updated regularly.
22. To promote the Preschool to current parents and potential customers.
23. To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Manager, in accordance with the setting’s business plan/objectives.

Person specification
Essential criteria
1. Willingness to undertake a Level 2 early years education and childcare qualification or equivalent.
2. Fluent or native level of English, spoken and written.
3. Previous experience of working with young children.
4. Sound knowledge of child development for children from birth to five years.
5. Knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
6. Knowledge of child protection procedures.
7. Good communication skills.
8. An understanding of play-based approaches to children’s learning and development.
9. Commitment to equal opportunities.
10. Commitment to working effectively with young children and families.
11. Friendly and flexible approach at work which facilitates the development of effective relationships.
Desirable criteria
1. Willingness to undertake further training.
2. Current First Aid at Work qualification.
Terms and conditions
Hours: From 6 –15 hours per week (term time) .
38 weeks per year
(Terms will follow the European School school year)
Grade: 4
Salary range: £12.21 - £14.48 per hour pro rata depending on qualifications and experience.
