A vacancy has arisen in the Quality Assurance Department for a Technical Process Quality Engineer. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to provide full lifecycle ownership of process quality across R&D, NPI, process start‑up and ongoing production. This is a technical quality role working closely with R&D, Manufacturing Engineering (MED), Production and Purchasing to ensure our processes are capable, compliant, stable, and continually improving. You will be the technical guardian of process robustness, preventing COPQ, driving early DFM, validating new processes, monitoring capability and auditing critical operations.
The main duties and responsibilities of this role are:
- Partner with R&D to drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and early process risk identification.
- Lead PFMEA, control plan development, and process risk modelling including COPQ impact.
- Work with MED and Purchasing to specify, validate and introduce new equipment, tooling and fixtures.
- Own process start‑up validation (IQ/OQ/PQ) for new products, engineering changes and new equipment.
- Monitor ongoing process capability and SPC, identifying variation and driving corrective action.
- Conduct scheduled critical‑process audits to ensure compliance, capability and control.
- Support NPI through attendance at design release stages and weekly NPI meetings.
- Drive continuous improvement using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Assist in the analysis of defect trends to improve internal quality and improve cost effectiveness.
- Support QMS audits to ISO 9001 and ISO 13485.
- Ensure compliance with ESD standards across relevant production areas.
- Promote “Right First Time” and “Continual Improvement” across all process areas.
Job requirements:
- Strong background in process quality engineering within electronics, PCBA, SMA or similar manufacturing.
- Expert knowledge of PFMEA, SPC, capability studies (Cp/Cpk), and validation (IQ/OQ/PQ).
- Experience in DFM, process feasibility and early‑stage risk analysis.
- Lean / Six Sigma qualification (Green / Blackbelt).
- Working knowledge of IPC‑A‑610, IPC/WHMA‑A‑620A and internal workmanship standards.
- Strong communication and project management skills.
- Ability to work cross‑functionally with R&D, MED, Production, Purchasing and Quality.
- Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret in-house yield, defect and warranty data.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 13485 Management Systems.
- Knowledge of VDA 6.3 process auditing techniques is desirable (training will be given).
- The successful candidate will require excellent communication skills, verbal, written and listening.
- The ability to work as part of a team and alone without supervision where the role requires
- Good organisation and time management skills are essential along with the ability to use initiative when problem solving and work with a high level of attention to detail.
- A working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
- Candidates must have a current Driving Licence and be prepared to travel.
Working week: Monday – Thursday 07:45 – 16:30 / Friday 07:45 – 12:15 – 37.5 hour per week
Salary: The starting salary for this role is £41,122 per annum
