About the role
We are seeking a talented Junior Electrical Design Engineer to join our Electrical Engineering team. In this role, you will contribute to design and integration of electrical systems that power and control autonomous vessels, ensuring seamless operation, safety, and compliance with industry standards.
What you'll be doing
- Electrical System Design for Autonomy: Support the development and design of electrical systems for autonomous vessels, including power distribution, propulsion control, sensor integration, and communication networks.
- Integration with Autonomous Systems: Collaborate with software and control engineers to integrate electrical systems with onboard autonomous navigation and control systems.
- Compliance with Standards: Ensure all electrical designs comply with relevant maritime regulations and standards for autonomous vessels and classification society requirements.
- System Testing and Validation: Support the testing and validation of electrical systems.
- Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with naval architects, mechanical engineers, and software developers to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems into the overall vessel design.
- Documentation and Reporting: Contribute to detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and compliance reports.
What we're looking for
- Education: Degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering/related field or equivalent industry experience.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g. AutoCAD), and a solid understanding of electrical principles.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to address complex engineering challenges in autonomous systems.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to multidisciplinary teams.
Desirable experience
- Experience in the maritime industry. Familiarity with marine electrical standards.
- Experience with autonomous navigation and control systems, including sensor integration (e.g., LIDAR, radar, GPS).
- Knowledge of communication protocols and networks used in autonomous vessels (e.g., Ethernet, CAN bus, NMEA 2000).
- Familiarity with power management systems for electric and hybrid propulsion.
