Job Summary
Blackwood Engineering Limited is a global company based in South Wales and are now seeking an ambitious undergraduate Degree Apprentice who will train in Supply Chain Management.
You will work in our Supply Chain Management Department for 4 days a week, earning a salary and be supported to study part time, day release, 1 day a week for a BSc degree in Supply Chain and Logistics with University of Wales Trinity St Davies. The ability to drive is essential. This degree apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to a highly motivated individual looking to gain practical experience within a dynamic supply chain environment whilst pursuing degree level academic qualifications with no fees and no student loans (valued at over £30,000).
This will be of interest to someone who is career orientated, has completed their A-levels or BTEC Extended Diploma (or other higher-level qualifications) and would like the opportunity to study for a BSc Degree whilst working full time and earning a salary over 4 years. It may also be of interest to someone with logistics experience who wants to earn and be supported to gain a relevant business degree.
Blackwood Engineering will offer undergraduates an exposure to shipping control, data analysis, sales and purchase order systems and container tracking that support industrial processes and international trade. You will join a close team of experts who will support you as you develop within the business in a structured programme whilst also supporting your university commitments
The Supply Chain Management Degree Apprentice will have a period of structured development and will become responsible for a range of tasks appropriate to capability to include international shipping control, container tracking, forecasting, analysis, data entry, ERP systems usage and working with our site in Belgium.
The aim of this role is for you to become responsible for creating and providing accurate shipping plans to the company’s suppliers whilst ensuring on-site stock levels are maintained in line with the company’s stock holding policy. You will become responsible for analysing customer demand and creating supplier schedules whilst considering lead times, freight risks and stock issues.
The successful candidate will also lead on Lean Continuous Improvement activities for the Supply Chain Management department and strategic projects
The successful candidate will be integral to enhancing operational efficiency, implementing continuous improvement strategies, and developing a comprehensive understanding of supply chain functions. This paid apprenticeship is ideal for individuals eager to develop their understanding of international business, supplier management linked to purchasing and customer requirements, use of ERP systems, and data analysis within a professional setting.
Responsibilities
- Assist in analysing supply chain processes using tools
- Support the utilisation of ERP systems to manage inventory, procurement, and logistics data.
- Contribute to process improvement projects employing Lean Continuous Improvement methodologies like Kaizen, 5S and root cause analysis to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
- Participate in data collection and reporting activities to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) across logistics operations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on continuous improvement initiatives aimed at streamlining workflows and reducing costs.
- Help implement ERP system upgrades or enhancements, ensuring seamless integration with existing processes.
- Support logistics planning activities, including inventory management and distribution scheduling, ensuring compliance with company standards.
Skills
- Understanding of supply chain principles encompassing logistics, procurement, inventory management, and distribution.
- Ability to analyse complex data sets to identify trends and opportunities for optimisation.
- Must have excellent analytical skills
- Must have a strong attention to detail and a thorough, methodical approach to your work
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently within deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with diverse teams and presenting findings clearly.
