We Are Gateway is a growing fabrication and chassis manufacturing business, and we’re looking for an experienced Contracts Estimator to join our busy fabrication and engineering team.
This is an important role within the business, responsible for reviewing customer enquiries, drawings and specifications in order to prepare accurate and commercially competitive quotations. The successful candidate will work closely with our contracts, production, purchasing and management teams to ensure that jobs are priced correctly, realistically and in line with customer requirements.
This role would suit someone with experience in estimating, fabrication, welding, engineering or manufacturing who is confident reading technical drawings and understands how jobs move from enquiry through to production.
Key Responsibilities
- Review customer enquiries, drawings, specifications and tender documents.
- Prepare accurate estimates and quotations for fabrication and engineering work.
- Price materials, labour, subcontract work, transport, finishing, consumables and other associated costs.
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing for materials and specialist services.
- Identify any exclusions, assumptions, risks or technical queries at quotation stage.
- Communicate with customers regarding enquiries, clarifications and quotation follow-ups.
- Work closely with contracts, production and purchasing teams to ensure accurate handover of successful jobs.
- Support workload planning by providing estimated labour hours and job durations.
- Maintain accurate quotation records and pricing information.
- Contribute to improving estimating processes, templates and pricing systems.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience in estimating, contracts, fabrication, engineering, manufacturing or a similar technical environment.
- The ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- A good understanding of fabrication processes, welding, materials and manufacturing methods.
- Strong numeracy and attention to detail.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- The ability to manage multiple enquiries and deadlines.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
- A practical, organised and commercially aware approach.
Desirable Experience
Experience in any of the following would be an advantage:
- Steel fabrication
- Architectural metalwork
- Structural steel
- Sheet metal
- Welding and general engineering
- Coatings, machining or subcontract services
- Estimating software, ERP/MRP or CRM systems
- Site measuring or site survey work
