Job Title: Yard Operative Shunter
Monday to Friday 45 hours per week
Key Responsibilities
- Moving HGV trucks and trailers safely between company sites.
- Taking vehicles and trailers for MOT inspections and testing appointments.
- Carrying out daily yard duties and ensuring vehicles are parked and positioned correctly.
- Performing basic vehicle and trailer maintenance, including but not limited to:
- Checking and topping up engine fluids.
- Replacing defective air and electrical lines.
- Replacing bulbs and lighting components.
- Repairing or replacing curtain buckles and other minor trailer fittings.
- Reporting defects and ensuring vehicles remain roadworthy.
Requirements
- A valid and clean HGV Class 1 driving licence is essential.
- Good understanding of HGV vehicles and trailers.
- Ability to carry out light mechanical and maintenance repairs.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, punctual and organised.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with loading and unloading materials and equipment from trucks
- Organize and maintain the yard area
- Operate forklifts and other machinery as needed
- Perform general maintenance and cleaning tasks
- Follow safety protocols and maintain a safe work environment
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors
