About the Role

Pure Med Recruitment is seeking a versatile, hands-on Deputy Manager to bridge the gap between clinical excellence and operational management in Caldicot. This role requires a strong leader with a proactive approach to problem-solving, a deep understanding of CIW regulations, and a commitment to high-quality, relationship-centred care.

The standard core hours are Monday–Friday, 09:00–17:00, but flexibility is essential. To maintain safe staffing levels and operational continuity, you will need to cover varied shifts (including days, nights, emergencies, and annual leave) and participate in an on-call rotation shared with the General Manager.

Structure of the Week:

Clinical Practice (2 days/week): Working on-the-floor to ensure exceptional care delivery, lead by example, and mentor the staff.
Management & Governance (3 days/week): Dedicated to administrative duties, including audits, care planning, occupancy support, and team development.

Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Operational Management

Oversee daily care provision and deputise for the General Manager during absences.
Manage staff rotas efficiently, ensuring the correct skill mix aligns with residents' needs.
Lead recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing learning and development to help the team reach their full potential.
Conduct staff supervisions, appraisals, and performance management.
Drive occupancy and support the resident move-in process, ensuring financial and legal documentation is completed prior to admission.
Maintain open communication with residents, relatives, colleagues, and external stakeholders.

Clinical Governance & Quality Care

Lead the continuous assessment, planning, and evaluation of relationship-centred and dementia care.
Ensure robust pre-admission assessments and regularly review individual care plans.
Oversee the safe administration and auditing of medications in line with internal policies and best practices.
Handle internal investigations, disciplinaries, and root cause analyses when required.
Ensure all hospitality and care services strictly adhere to statutory, regulatory, and company frameworks.

Health, Safety & Compliance

Take ownership of clinical outcomes, internal/external audits, and health and safety legislation.
Complete risk assessments and accurately report any accidents, incidents, or near-misses.
Ensure all clinical team members adhere to their professional codes of conduct and maintain active registration.

Candidate RequirementsEssential Criteria:

Must hold a current, valid NMC PIN as a Registered Nurse (RGN).
Qualifications: QCF Level 4 / ILM 4 in Management (or an equivalent qualification recognised by Social Care Wales).
Experience: Extensive experience within a residential or nursing care setting, showcasing a deep grasp of clinical governance and CIW regulations.
Flexibility: Ability to work clinical shifts (at least twice a week, covering days/nights in emergencies) and share on-call duties every 1–2 weeks.
Skills: Strong IT literacy (Microsoft Office), exceptional negotiation and conflict-resolution skills, and a proven track record of leading teams under pressure.
Travel: Willingness to travel to sister homes for training or support if required.

Desirable Criteria:

Proven experience specializing in care for individuals living with dementia.
A naturally approachable, transparent, and collaborative leadership style.

Please Note: Candidates must have a proactive, "hands-on" attitude and a strong sense of ownership over the home's operational and clinical stability.

Pay: £45,000.00 per year
