Strainstall delivers specialist load and structural monitoring solutions that provide real‑time insight into asset performance. Their expert teams design and manufacture precision monitoring equipment to help customers manage risk, improve safety and support reliable operations.
What will you be doing?
As an Apprentice Machinist, you will develop the skills to set up, operate and maintain precision engineering equipment, starting with manual machines and progressing to CNC technology. You’ll work alongside experienced colleagues while completing your apprenticeship through a combination of on-the-job learning and college study.
You will:
- Assist in the setting up and operation of machining equipment including lathes, milling machines and saws
- Machine metal components to required engineering specifications
- Learn to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
- Measure and inspect components using precision equipment such as micrometers, vernier calipers, depth gauges and shadow graphs
- Carry out basic maintenance checks on machinery and equipment
- Record production data and measurement results accurately
- Maintain a safe, clean and organised working environment and follow all health and safety procedures
- Support continuous improvement activities and develop your technical skills

To join our team, you will need:
- GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths is essential
- A strong interest in engineering, machining or manufacturing
- A willingness to learn and develop new technical skills
- Good communication skills and the ability to listen and take on feedback
- A high level of attention to detail and an interest in hands-on work
- A positive attitude and ambition to build a career in engineering
- Basic IT skills and an understanding of workshop environments (desirable)
- A proactive and reliable approach to work
