WE ARE STORY ENGINEERS.
The Bayeux Tapestry at the British Museum. The David Bowie Centre at V&A East Storehouse. The Formula 1 Exhibition. Harry Potter: The Exhibition. TOCA Social. Nearly thirty years of experiences designed and delivered to wow audiences on opening night and keep working every day for years afterwards.
We work at the intersection of storytelling and technology, transforming museums, exhibitions, stadiums and cultural spaces into unforgettable journeys.
We design, deliver and install experiences that not only leave lasting impressions for audiences but also give our clients outstanding value, smooth delivery, and the confidence that their creative vision will be fully realised. We call it Story Engineering: a discipline built around the story, not the specification.
The name is new, we rebranded from Sysco Productions this year. The work isn't. What we've been missing is someone whose job is making sure the right people know about it.
ROLE
This role is part-time, three days a week, three shorter days across five if that suits you better. We're flexible on shape, not on the calibre of person we're looking for. Built for someone with real experience who isn't looking to work full-time
This role exists to grow the top of our pipeline.
We've just rebranded, and the groundwork behind it is substantial: audience insights, brand strategy, tone of voice, website architecture and copy, brand archetypes, a mapped view of which markets to prioritise next. The strategy is sound. What it needs now is someone to make it produce opportunities.
The Marketing Lead reads the pieces already in place, proposes what happens next and in what order, and turns an agreed direction into campaigns, content, and the pipeline intelligence that business development runs on. The exec signs off on direction and priorities, but getting there starts with this person looking at what we've built and making the case for where to focus. That judgement - knowing what to prioritise inside an existing strategy, rather than inventing one from scratch - is what the role asks for.
Be clear on the shape of it: this is a hands-on job, not a budget-holding one. Marketing spend is modest and made case by case. Most of what happens will happen because this person did it. There's an in-house designer to work alongside, and real ownership on offer, but the work gets made rather than delegated.
Within the first six to twelve months, this looks like: a website that carries a genuinely finished, on-brand content set; audience intelligence feeding every business development conversation, not just sitting in a CRM; two or three thought leadership pieces live, written with our own people; and a first, tested view of which new markets are actually worth the weight.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Grows the top of the funnel. Turns brand and audience work into qualified interest - measured in conversations started and opportunities created, not impressions.
- Runs the marketing engine. Owns the content calendar, social presence, and website updates, working alongside our in-house designer day to day. Writes and publishes copy, briefs and reviews visual assets, and keeps the machine moving without needing to be chased.
- Owns tone of voice. Knows the guidelines well enough to write to them without thinking and to spot, on sight, when something doesn't sound like us - whether that's their own draft, someone else's, or an agency's. Champions the standard everywhere words leave the building.
- Opens up new markets. Uses the existing audience and market prioritisation work to build presence in the sectors we're expanding into, testing what lands before committing weight to it.
- Develops thought leadership. Puts our own people's expertise into the world through articles and long-form content - building the briefs and frameworks that make it easy for busy technical and delivery leads to contribute, not just asking them to write.
- Continues the website build. Sitemap, wireframe, and copy archetypes are already in place, with pages partway through being populated against them. Directs that work through to completion, extends it using the existing specification, and keeps the site current once it's live.
- Builds audience intelligence. Runs email campaigns, tracks engagement, and builds a working picture of who's warm, who's cold, and who's ready for a conversation - handing that intelligence to business development.
- Owns the marketing system. Develops the CRM and marketing data setup incrementally, in line with the wider commercial model, rather than treating it as someone else's infrastructure.
- Keeps us in the conversation. Watches for relevant trade press, industry publications, and conference opportunities, and joins the live conversation when our projects come up on social media - timely engagement, not a scheduled campaign.
- Reports on what's working. Provides regular, plain-English updates on campaign performance and pipeline impact - not vanity metrics, results that connect back to opportunities.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- Judgement inside a strategy. You read a strategy document and see a to-do list, not a mystery. You can look at what's already there, work out what matters most right now, make a clear case for it, and then go and build it yourself.
- Commercial instinct. Healthy scepticism about vanity metrics and a habit of connecting marketing activity back to pipeline and revenue, even when no one's asked you to.
- Writing. Properly. Clean, on-brand copy without much hand-holding, and you can read someone else's and know instantly when it's off.
- Real ownership, already. You've run marketing somewhere before, not just contributed to it - five years or more, with at least some of that owning a channel mix and living with the results.
- B2B services marketing is a strong fit, not a requirement. You've marketed a services business to other businesses, or you've got the underlying instincts - long sales cycles, high-value clients, considered buying decisions - even if the sector's new to you.
- Fluency in the tools. WordPress, a CRM and email platform, and enough analytics and SEO literacy to read what's happening and not break what's been set up.
- Generosity with what you know. Working alongside less experienced colleagues, explaining your thinking rather than just doing the thing yourself, comes naturally.
- Sector knowledge is optional. Experience in technology, events, or experience delivery isn't required. The sector knowledge is learnable; the judgement isn't.
